Solenodon

strangest-and-rarest-animals-in-world01.jpg

Solenodons are venomous, nocturnal, burrowing, insectivorous mammals belonging to the family Solenodontidae. Only one genus, Solenodon, is known, although a few other genera were erected at one time and are now regarded as junior synonyms. The Solenodontidae family is interesting to phylogenetics researchers due to its retention of primitive mammal characteristics; their species resemble very closely those that lived near the end of the age of the dinosaurs.

Sea pig

Sea pigs are also known as scotoplanes, a genus of deep-sea holothurians (sea cucumbers). This sea creature is like a cross between a pig and a slug. I still think it’s cute, despite the fact that it looks like it has human fingers growing out of its mouth.

Sumatran rhino

strangest-and-rarest-animals-in-world10.jpg

The Sumatran Rhino is a mostly solitary animal except for courtship and child-rearing. It is the most vocal rhino species and also communicates through marking soil with its feet, twisting saplings into patterns, and leaving excrement. The rhino spends a large part of its day in wallows. When m&d holes are unavailable, the rhino will deepen puddles with its feet and horns. The wallowing behavior helps the rhino maintain its body temperature and protect its skin from ectoparasites and other insects.

Greater Galago

The greater galagos or thick-tailed bushbabies are the common name for three species of strepsirrhine primates. They are classified in the genus Otolemur in the family Galagidae.

Fossa

strangest-and-rarest-animals-in-world18.jpg

The fossa is a mammal endemic to Madagascar. A member of family Eupleridae, it is closely related to the mongoose. It is the largest mammalian carnivore on the island of Madagascar. The rarity of this animal likely contributed to the belief that the fossa is entirely nocturnal, but recent scientific study has found that it is active both during the day and night, this mammal also has a pattern of activity known as cathemerality, depending on season and prey availability.

Pig-nosed frog

strangest-and-rarest-animals-in-world33.jpg

The sole member of an ancient family, 50 to 100 million years old, it hunkered deep underground while the dramatic environmental and physical changes sweeping the earth wiped out whole groups of animals and saw new ones evolve. This dinosaur among frogs was only discovered in 2003.

Tiger with a rare “golden” color mutation

strangest-and-rarest-animals-in-world39.jpg

A golden tabby tiger is one with an extremely rare color variation caused by a recessive gene and is currently only found in captive tigers. Like the white tiger, it is a color form and not a separate species. In the case of the golden tiger, this is the wide band gene; while the white tiger is due to the color inhibitor (chinchilla) gene. There are currently believed to be fewer than 30 of these rare tigers in the world, but many more carriers of the gene.

talk about tiger, i know one ridiculous incident with regards to an Ah neh friend i had in my sec sch days from tuition centre. till today i say out people also think i big hole.

he went to holiday to his relative place in india (very rich and elite class), visit their private zoo and saw their tigers. His relative realized he love the animal and thus decided to give him a surprise. After he return to Sg, few months later he received a package, inside got 2 baby tigers.

he got a shock of his life, how the fuck can this pass the custom...DUN ASK ME....he himself also dunno. he called his relative to ask to confirm what had happened, the ah neh stupid relative actually said: "you mean you cannot keep tiger at your own place? why?" that ah neh friend of mine lived in HDB, he was totally lost then. a lot of us think he big hole like typical ah neh, so we goes his house have a look, all of us jaw dropped.

after sec sch lost touch, no fucking idea how he going to deal with it. but i think he gave it to the zoo as he said that was his plan when they grown bigger.

if many more carry the gene ...we can expect more breeder breeding it . that is a good news .

The tiger looks nice. The rest of the animals just made me puke out my lunch!

How much do u think this 'golden' tiger can fetch compared to a normal tiger?

A tiger can be caged and even trained, but never really tamed. Even a leash has no use on a tiger. Out of the cage and if it knows you're unarmed, you're its meal.

To those idiots who like to buy illegal pets, the traders you buy are informers themselves. They are just like vice syndicates who will snitch on everyone to bargain for lighter sentence when caught. There was a snake dealer at Tanjong Pagar who did that and turn in all his buyers.

Yeah right, go search for that movie Born Free. You know behind the cameras, how many rifles were aimed at that lion just in case?

Whatever, I'm no match for tiger or lion. I'm not interested in teasing or training it too. I won't go near it unless it's caged or I'm armed.
