Melaka man stabs his mother to death after hearing voices​

MELAKA: A horrific murder left villagers at Kampung Paya Buloh here shaken when a 38-year-old man allegedly stabbed his mother to death after hearing voices telling him to do it.

Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Zainol Samah said the incident occurred at about 3pm on Tuesday (July 5) when retired teacher Rozizah Mat Dom, 63, was stabbed with a knife on both sides of her neck.

"We detained the suspect at the house. He claimed that he heard voices telling him that his mother was praying to statues and told him to stab her when she was resting," he told the media at the scene of the crime.

According to DCP Zainol, the suspect handed the knife to his mother after stabbing her.

"The victim died shortly afterward due to two stab wounds to the neck," he said.

DCP Zainol said Rozizah's 30-year-old daughter began screaming and neighbours ran to her aid while the suspect was still in the house.

He said the suspect had two previous drug offences on his record and a urine test would be conducted to determine if he was under the influence of drugs at the time of the murder.

He added that police will seek a remand order on the suspect and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

It was necessary that he convinced himself that he heard voices so that he had a reason to kill the mother. He knew it was wrong to do what he did, so subconsciously he wanted to push the blame to "someone". In this case, it was the "voices" and the conduct of the mother who prayed to statues.
