Can anyone seriously overlook this man in our fight against COVID? Do you trust this man to lead us out of the pandemic or the fat fark Kenneth Mak? Just because he is not from the ruling party doesn't mean his ideas are garbage. His views are worth all all of the 4G leeders and an empress wannaba put together...

SINGAPORE: Infectious diseases expert Paul Tambyah has been elected as the president of the US-based International Society of Infectious Diseases (ISID).
The National University of Singapore (NUS) professor will be the first Singaporean to hold the position.

Before his term begins in 2022, Professor Tambyah will support the current ISID president, Professor Alison Holmes, in the running of the organisation, said NUS in a news release on Tuesday (Jun 16).
Founded in 1986, ISID is a non-profit organisation dedicated to finding solutions to the problems of infectious diseases across the world. The society also has a special focus in countries with limited resources and which disproportionately bear the burden of infectious diseases.
Prof Tambyah said in an email to TODAY that he was honoured to have been elected to the post "despite the challenging environment".
Professor Jonathan Cohen, a former ISID president, asked him to run for the post, he said.
“I agreed as I felt it was time to have a president from Asia, and that I could contribute to the society’s mission in improving infectious disease care in low- and middle-income countries,” said Prof Tambyah, who is also a senior consultant infectious diseases physician at the National University Hospital.

He added that this would provide opportunities for clinicians and scientists in Singapore to "get involved in the region and the world of infectious disease".
Prof Tambyah said that his plans for the society involved strengthening an "emerging leaders" programme that mentors young scientists from around the world and connects them with academics in major centres.
“I would also like to get the global health programmes in (Singapore’s) three medical schools and connect them with the professionals in the countries where ISID is active."
The medical schools in Singapore are NUS' Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University's Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine and the Duke-NUS Medical School.
Commenting on the COVID-19 pandemic, Prof Tambyah said that this was a critical time for infectious diseases globally.

"The COVID-19 pandemic has brought home the fact that viruses do not respect international boundaries," said Prof Tambyah.
"Singapore academics, clinicians and public health professionals have much to contribute to societies such as ISID to help make the world a healthier place for everyone," he added.
Former president of ISID Marc Mendelson said that Prof Tambyah was "well known to all in the field of infectious diseases".
He also "brings a wealth of experience from his time with multiple international societies and august bodies, as well as formidable experience across the spectrum of infection, including outbreaks, tropical medicine, and clinical applied research", said Professor Mendelson.
Prof Tambyah has served as the research director in the division of infectious diseases at the National University Health System, and was also the president of the Singapore Society of Infectious Diseases. He was also the assistant dean at NUS Medicine in 2015.

Prof Tambyah is also the chairman of the Singapore Democratic Party.

The 3 amigos and their fat fark clown Kenneth Mak can all go fark spider. All have shown no courage, no foresight and no plans to move forward.

It's time to get their heads out of the sand and listen to the one real world-renown expert on infectious disease.

Fark the politics!

It would be a very different scenario if Prof Tambyah leads the MTF, that I can assure you.

We won't be in this deep shit if he is in charge because I've read his alternative solution and I think it is the best way forward.

SDP INTRODUCES A SENSIBLE AND FORESIGHTED PLAN TO EXIT THE COVID PANDEMIC

September 28, 2021
Singapore Democrats
covic.jpeg

The handling of the Covid-19 pandemic by the Government’s Multi-Ministerial Task Force has been plagued with a distinct lack of coherence and direction. This has left Singaporeans confused and frustrated.
The lack of a clear strategy in dealing with the pandemic has also left businesses unable to plan ahead. The reactive nature of the MMTF’s approach in dealing with outbreaks of infections has led to stop-start, on-again/off-again policies which had impacted adversely on both employers and employees.
In light of this, the SDP has developed an 8-point plan to exit the pandemic and get Singapore out of the current mess and into a more stable and hopeful future. The paper has been drawn up by the party’s healthcare panel which also wrote our National Healthcare Plan in 2013 which was updated more recently in 2019.

1. Stop testing asymptomatic vaccinated individuals outside of contact tracing. This will help ensure that resources are concentrated on those who need them most – the elderly and vulnerable who are actually infected.

2. Ensure that those who test positive including pregnant women and children report to the nearest Public Health Preparedness Clinic (private General Practitioners or polyclinics) who can then evaluate them and decide if they need to be hospitalised or simply monitored over the week or so as we do with other infectious diseases such as urinary tract infections or food poisoning. GPs should be appropriately compensated for the care they provide.

3. Facilitate nursing homes to keep infected patients who are stable and do not need hospitalisation in their facilities but segregate them from the rest of the residents. Have GPs check on them and decide when they need hospitalisation. This will relieve the strain on hospitals and ensure that those who need hospital care are not deprived or delayed.

4. Set up a dedicated ambulance hotline similar to what was used during SARS for those who have tested positive or are identified as contacts so they can be rapidly brought to the hospital if their pulse oximeter readings show evidence of low oxygen concentrations.

5. Publish regular reports on test positivity and all clusters (like the dengue cluster reports) as in the recent decision to publish a map of emerging cases. This will help the public to seek medical attention if they develop symptoms after visiting those areas.

6. Do away with blanket closures and restrictions. Instead, implement interventions that are targeted like with food poisoning outbreaks or hand, foot and mouth disease outbreaks in childcare centres. Shut the physical building or facility where an outbreak occurs instead of across the whole island where outbreaks have not occurred.

7. Intensify molecular epidemiology (genetic fingerprinting) process. Every public hospital and referral lab must perform this for every positive case and the information should be fed into a database modelled on the World Health Organization’s (WHO) GISAID and the information therein made publicly available. This will make the identification of large clusters reliable.

8. Conduct rapid adaptive design randomized clinical trials on all WHO-approved vaccines so they can be brought in for the trials and studied as boosters or primary doses. These vaccines should be commissioned and funded rapidly. The same should be done for other preventative agents which have shown promise in earlier randomized trials such as povidone iodine or ivermectin. This will settle once and for all in a clear scientific manner many of the questions swirling around social media on alternatives to the current vaccination strategies.
Collectively, these measures will provide society with a more reliable and predictable way of handling the pandemic. They will build confidence as we go forward in dealing with a virus that is here to stay. Singapore must deal with the pandemic in a steady and intelligent manner that brings hope and security.

*We welcome public feedback on these measures. Please provide your comments here.

*If you have a burning question that we can answer on our APA programme this Tuesday night, ask it here.

Give him a chance lah! If he leads and runs the MTF like he does his campaign, we will all be for the better. This is a man that will give his all, unlike the 3 lazy amigos and their fat fark "expert" Kenneth Mak who all sound like they have more or less put out the white flag and suffering from COVID fatigue.

Paul Thambi was not overlooked. He was simply not selected because there are many other talented people in the field on infectious disease. You are biased towards this thambi because he's from the sdp.

Who in Singapore, or for that matter in the world, is good enough to be elected as President of International Society Of Infectious Disease? He is the top dog in his field of expertise. Isn't it the responsibility of any gahment to put the best man for the job for he good of all Sinkees, regardless of whatever political party he belongs?

You are biased because he is not from the MIW.

Never heard of them before. They also didn't play any prominent role in helping us fight against SARS or Covid.

NUS professor and infectious diseases expert Paul Tambyah to head Society in 2022

As the President-Elect of the International Society of Infectious Diseases (ISID), Professor Paul Tambyah will support the incumbent President, Professor Alison Holmes, in the running of the organisation. He will succeed incumbent President, Professor Alison Holmes, in 2022 as the first President from Asia.

The ISID aims to support health professionals, non-government organizations, and governments around the world in their work to prevent, investigate, and manage infectious disease outbreaks and endemic infectious diseases such as tuberculosis and dengue. ISID places special focus in countries with limited resources and which disproportionately bear the burden of infectious diseases, and is dedicated to developing partnerships and finding solutions to the problems of infectious diseases across the globe. It encourages the collaborative efforts of human health, veterinary health, and environmental health communities working locally, nationally, and globally for best control and management of infectious diseases.

Established in 1986, the Society is a non-profit, apolitical and transparent organization based in Massachusetts, USA. Its network of over 90,000 individuals worldwide share a collective belief that infectious diseases cross all borders and that long-term, effective solutions require international scientific exchange and cooperation.

Commenting on Prof Tambyah’s appointment, Professor Marc Mendelson, Past-President of ISID, said, “Paul is well-known to all in the field of infectious diseases, and brings a wealth of experience from his time with multiple international societies and august bodies, as well as formidable experience across the spectrum of infection, including outbreaks, tropical medicine, and clinical applied research. He is a go-to speaker on so many topics and currently serves as Chair of the ISID Publications Committee, playing a vital role in the success of our journal IJID.”

At the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Prof Tambyah is Professor of Medicine. He is also a Senior Consultant in Infectious Diseases at the National University Hospital and has served as the Research Director in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the National University Health System (NUHS). Outside of the NUHS, Prof Tambyah is the President of the Asia Pacific Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infection. Other positions Prof Tambyah has held include being the immediate past-president of the Singapore Society of Infectious Diseases and Assistant Dean at NUS Medicine in 2015.

“This is a critical time for infectious diseases globally. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought home the fact that viruses do not respect international boundaries. No one is safe anywhere until everyone is safe everywhere. Singapore academics, clinicians and public health professionals have much to contribute to societies such as ISID to help make the world a healthier place for everyone,” said Prof Tambyah.

Dr Paul Tambyah - MOH minister
Tharman Shanmugaratnam - Singapore next PM

The above scenario will lead Singapore out of the wood very quickly.

The current scenario and leadership is not very ideal for Singaporeans and businesses, at large.

I think it would be a good move.

You would need Dr Paul Tambyah to set aside his political affiliations and join the PAP first. They can get some jiak liaobee MP to step aside have a by election and get Dr Tambyah vote into parliament too.

Having Indian PM and Indian Minister of Health and head of Task Force lead Singapore out of covid 19 will be good also for the CECA narrative and tell Singaporeans not to be racist please.

I am setting up an online petition for God to return PM Lee to us. His son and the 4G leaders are 4th rate!

No point petitioning to God. He doesn't want to have anything to do with this guy.

You should petition to Yama, but he is too valuable for Yama to release as he is Yama's right hand man in the underworld, soon to be Yama himself.
