This Coming GE - All Seats Contested?

If WP and NSP can come up with about 25+/- candidates each, SDA, SDP, RP, USD and SF can come up with an average of 10+/- candidates each, it looks like a full contest without any walkover. The figures I estimated aren't guaranteed but neither are they unrealistic, yes?

In every election you'll always hear the opposition citing numbers higher than what they would field in the end. This time will be no different. Don't expect a 84 seat contest, although the figure will be the highest since 1988.

The latest estimates are:
NSP - 18
WP - 15
RP - 12
SDA - 5
SF - 2
USD - 0
TOTAL - 52

ahhhh...what happened to SDP?
will there still be SDA?

84x$13k=$1.092million.

That is the amount of election deposit needed if opposition wants to go for every seat

Oops how careless. Let me revise the estimates:

NSP - 18
WP - 15
RP - 12
SDP - 7
SDA - 6
SF - 2
USD - 0
TOTAL - Around 60 out of 84

The wards of AMK, Tanjong Pagar and Marine Parade are likely to WO.

Citing high-end figures is one thing. Both WP and NSP have cited 40 each as "target." If both achieve that, it's not only a guaranteed no walkover, but also many guaranteed 3-corners when you count the other parties.

My optimistic estimates are:

Various parties contesting 12 SMCs = 12
WP contesting 3 GRCs = +15
NSP contesting 3 GRCs = +15
SDA contesting 2 GRCs = +10
RP contesting 2 GRCs = +10
SDP contesting 1 GRC = +5
SF contesting 1 GRC = +5
USD contesting SMC only = +0

Total contesting = 72

That'd leave a leeway of two GRCs for pre-election opposition negotiation to avoid 3-corners. Well it may be uniquely Singapore again, at every election there're two boundary reports. The first one comes from the government and based on that, the second one comes from the opposition splitting the pie to avoid more than one going for a bite at the same piece.

Edit with apology: Correction requested by GMS: NSP cited 30 as target, not 40.

Are you sure all of them are gog to come up with so many candidates?

Whatever GMS says, better cut in half!

NSP - 15
SDA - 10
SDP - 10
WP - 15
RP - 15
SF - 5
USD - 0

TOTAL : 70

Still short of 12 seats leh. And that's assuming my very generous estimates hold true, and no 3 cornered fight.

Leading by shaking is a sure lose formula. If someone loses his deposit, that is an accomplishment for him/her. Not easy. A gila chap fought Jayakumar in bedok years ago and secured 30 over % without even campaigning.

He did a favour to Jayakumar by allowing Jaya to win in a proper contest, and also win with a large margin of 70%. That is infinitely better than a walkover. Every PAP candidate dreams of having such a situation.

hahaha...bird's view on this...
everyone wants to be the boss......
unfortunately...u see this everywhere.

Unfortunately, we don't even see the boss! They just register and remain faceless. My only guess - they are fake parties.

When asked ny foreigners, our MIW can always explain there is freedom here. Otherwise, how to explain the number of APs. Who orchestrate these parties? Isn't that very obvious.

When you put ten Singaporeans together, six have no idea what's politics and the other four form five political parties.
