Iceland has a population of 402,000 people, but qualified for the World Cup in 2018. At this year's tournament, Cape Verde with 530,000 citizens and Curacao with 158,006 people, both made it. S'pore which has 3.66 million citizens, should have no excuse for not ever qualifying for this competition.

All could have been naturalised, but the PAP wants them to become holders of pink ICs before they can play for the Lions.
This is why the S'pore national team cannot compete internationally. Too much govt interference putting even more constraints on the available players than FIFA ever set. Foreign footballers only need to have 1 parent or grandparent who was S'porean to represent the Lions, based on FIFA rules.
