Thailand just needs 5-6 years to dig the Thai Canal

they need another 50-60 years to dig the canal
they have been talking about it for the last 50-60 years
5 to 6 years.. Not 50 to 60 years.. They talk abouut it first, then acquire the necessary technology to do it, evaluate, then 5 to 6 years.

It’s will never happen
Once in awhile the topic will be revived and nothing comes out of it

They chased chiobu Thai PM off and now put someone else. No more chio bu to watch in action. New person got more to handle over some canal.

This thread has been here since 2009 and now 2025.
The Thais are not going to dig and will not dig.

Digging is one thing.
To maintain is another
How much are they going to charge per ship as they go through base on today's costing ?

I don't have much faith in our govt just wanting to keep on building properties.
If only the CS can work like Thai trying to have new trading platform for our sinkie sme to succeed instead working for GLCs or to counteract Thai taking away their trade now that they kept on wanting to take away our trade.

To get users to Use kra canal, it has to be deep and wide enough to Allow big supertankers and massive container vessels to pass both ways simultaneously. Maybe half a km wide.
And toll must be cheap as it saves only 3 sailing days. Unlike suez and Panama which save weeks of sailing.
Plus a massive port must be built to accommodate transhipment for container oil and other bulk commodities.
Plus tunnels to link North and south highways, railways telecom and power lines disconnected due to tunnel.

If its built, the centre of commerce and industry in Thailand will Shift south.

The Thailand Kra land - rail is one of the few options.
As previously mentioned, another shipping alternative is the Funan Techo Canal in Cambodia. This project involves excavation work, which has already commenced and is expected to be completed by 2028.

The biggest problem is not digging the canal. It's the Muslim rebels who can use the canal as a boundary to fight the Thai army. The canal make natural fence for defense

The Kra Canal has been ruled out, and the focus is now on developing a land-railway project plan.
