Tan Jee Say & NSP

Agree on GMS. You don't get 2nd Class in Economics/Econmetrics without some sense and brains. As to TJS, this is a real puzzle. I am not ruling out a hidden hand with this lot. Unable to prigeon-hole or even size the ego. But he certainly run down his previous company spectacularly the British did not blink and I wondered why. Also explain why despite his relative youth, the lack of tenure.
GMS left because he knew that he cannot steer NSP by himself, as much as he tried. He is not stupid, he will not waste his energy of something that cannot be fixed. Actually, he knew he cannot do much even before GE 2011, but no choice NSP was the only platform he could ride on. The better candidates I believe will also followed GMS' lead. Problem is go out of NSP, to where? This man will not give up, as you've already said. The 39.9% in Aljunied and 25% in PE is not something a man like him can easily just let go. How it will play out will be interesting to watch.

The term "village idiot" has been copyrighted :-) It refers to a particular politician.

TCB was the only who could capture votes from BOTH sides of the political spectrum. He therefore had the best chance to win, and no one with a good mind should have missed that.

TKL and TJS went into the fray, despite knowing they could potentially upset the apple cart. What does that say about these two esteemed gentlemen?

and you still vote for TJS....?? sorry... cant resist whacking you

To be fair, after TFBH voted for TJS and TCB lost narrowly, he did say in this forum that he deserved to be "assed". :D

To be fair to those who regretted not voting for TCB, TCB did carry the baggage of being an ex-PAP MP. You need a leap of faith to believe that he could be independent. But on following what his followers had said on his Facebook and what they had also said about the other ex-PAP candidate, his credibility somehow got enhanced.

In 2011, the myth that the PAP is the "bestest" government in the universe was forever shattered.

On the contrary. GE 2011 confirmed once and for all the faith the Singaporeans have in the PAP and the confidence the majority have that it is the LHL team that has what it takes to lead Singapore into the future.

In previous elections, there was always a niggling doubt as to how big the actual support base was as the party was regularly returned to power on polling day.

This time round, every ward was contested bar one and the resounding 60% mandate speaks volumes. This proves that the govt has the ability to make the tough and unpopular calls on housing, immigration and health issues and yet still maintain it's bond with the electorate. This is truly a remarkable feat.

Why on earth are you quoting yourself.

a high chance Fook Seng is using a touch screen phone, could be an iPhone :eek::eek:

ps: read his message again and it seems like he was typing halfway and accidentally hit the send button, wanted to continue from it and hence the quote from his previous post

Bro, sense, brains not the issue here, GMS lacks a certain 'depth' that resolute politicians like LTK has - and no amount of analysis & commentary & supposed 'strategic/policy' insights or papers can alter the essence, including the whole track record of works in campaigning, electioneering etc.
e.g. seow khee leng of another era have no lack of 'ground' work and are seasoned MP-wannabes yet he and many like him, political lives of emptiness & futiliy (flash forward: sin kek tong 2011)

Back to TJS, this man strikes me as not at peace with himself... something is simmering inside.

The real issue I wanna to check with you is:
how about any inside info on the purported 'call for reform (of course he calls it transform)' appeal from ex-Foreign Minister Scholarly George Yeo?

MIW's 2011 Convention and GE post mortem has come & gone.
Is there really a 'reformist undercurrent' brewing?

George Yeo, many a times co-opted in PAP CEC, hence cadre support level suspect but intellectual reputation & calibre undisputed, not for no reason he was once touted as Old Man's blue-eye boy....

surely upon his admonishment, LHL did the historic apology thing, then by the same token, surely George's ardent cry for intra-party culture reform cannot be met with deaf ears for the MIW's leadership?

What say you?

Because the original message was incomplete but got sent out accidentally by the touchscreen as what zhihau has said. The unused flying finger can have a mind of its own. Instead of quoting the original message and re-typing the complete message all over again, completing the incomplete message in the quote seems like the natural thing to do - saving cyberspace real estate in the process.

Which means I have to get into Safari isn't it?

Editing within forum runner appears to be replying to a thread with a quote which I do most if the time. There was no other editing function.

That's true, Mr Leongsam. But then I wonder why immediately after the GE, the PAP embarked fervently on an introspection and serious soul searching, beating their chests that there will be no sacred cows and most of all, LKY, GCT, WKS, MBT and RL all stepped down. In fact just at their latest PAP convention, there are talks about how the PAP has made poor judgements and not understanding the ground enough. Why ah, Mr Leongsam, why ah, after all like u said, the results of this GE had proven once and for all how popular the PAP is. Really scratching my head.......................

That's politics. Surely you don't actually think that they mean it. One of the most important skills of a politician is to be able to make the right noises at the appropriate time. It's like making up with your girlfriend after a quarrel. You say a few things you think she wants to hear. You don't have to really mean it;) You still love each other but you've had a little tiff over minor issues.

As far as the govt is concerned, it's business as usual. The PAP loves you and you love the PAP. They know it and so do you.

Haha.........I got u this time didn't I. Now u are admitting that it's all wayang from the PAP whereas in previous posts u had complimented the PAP for being truthful and sincere in governing S'pore. You see, Mr Leongsam, when u don't have real facts to argue with, u will end up muddling yourself. In a way, u are a reflection of what happened to the PAP, arguing in circles and end up ridiculing themselves.

bro,
the task at hand is to reveal this wayang to the 60.1%
no time to lose, GE may be as soon as 2014.

Never believe a politician. They'll say whatever it takes to win votes. They're all the same the world over. Surely you're not that naive.

At the end of the day, any govt needs to be judged by its deeds not its words and I have to say that the PAP has proven time and time again that they are the best. However, I have never said that they're above telling porkies.

The biggest bullshit was LKY's apology for his remarks about the Muslims. He meant every word he said and he certainly wasn't sorry for saying them. He still stands by every single word in his "Hard Truths" essays.

I could easily come up with a list of bullshit statements from PAP ministers as long as your arm.

Georgie Boy, a true-blue fascist got kicked out! When Georgie Boy suggested that the PAPzis should transform, he was first in line to be kicked out! GB is a too bit twit who reads too much Chinese history that has no bearing at all with Singapore. Thank goodness he has been dumped. He is one of the biggest wolf in sheep clothing as far as the general populace is concerned.
