The journey of NOT seeing Olympic flame: A kindergarten class' disappointment

the_journey_of_not_seeing_olympic_flame_a_kindergarten_class-thumbnail.jpg

This morning, the pupils of Far East Kindergarten lined up eagerly along Dunearn Road to see the Youth Olympic Flame and cheer on the torchbearer. Their excited smiles were wiped off from their faces when all they got to see was a lantern hidden inside a YOG bus.

STOMPer Tabby had to pacify one of her pupils as he shed tears of disappointment.

Tabby sent in an email to STOMP, on behalf of her class pupils.

"We are the K2 pupils from Far Eastern Kindergarten.

"This morning we were waiting for the YOG torch to come by along Dunearn Road (near Newton Circus, outside the Breast Cancer Foundation).

"We were there at 9am, thinking that it would end at 10am. But at 9.15am, the YOG buses went by.

"However, the YOG Flame was hidden inside a lantern. We did not see any torch or torchbearers.

"We are furious and disappointed because we did not get to see the real torch.

"You see, we have been learning all about the Olympics since July. We even organised our own 'Little Olympics Day' last Saturday.

"We decorated our Olympic board with newspaper articles, pictures and Olympic rings.

"We even made our own Olympic torch but we did not get to see the real YOG torch.

"All of us are really disappointed. We only got to see a lantern in the YOG bus.

"One of our classmates cried because he was so sad. We did not want to go back to school because we couldn't believe that it was over.

"We would really like to see the Olympic torch and more. Can you help us please?

"It is so unfair that other people got to see the torch relay but we didn't get to."

Bad planning on the teacher's part. She should try to find out more. These YOG pple are DESPERATE for any signs of enthusiasm. That boy got a new camera and two days of coverage in the ST, for goodness's sake.

No possible la. Think teacher screwed up and waited at the wrong road. The YOG torch will not miss a chance to generate some enthusiaim, if the road is along the planned route.

Hey, wait a minute.....did anyone said Far Eastern Kindergarten and not the member PAP Kindergarten ? Chey, no wonder ler, wasted my time.

The torch bearer just ran a short distance, then all of them up lorry and drive to the next destination and start the show again. If you are not at the "show place", then you can only see the lorry with many "runners" inside, with the torch I suppose.

the torch bearing is just a joke la, who's to blame? YOG organizers lor... all the news n hype telling ppl that they bring the torch to heartlands up-down-left-right of this stinking island... in the end, they sit on the bus, use lantern............... they thought its lunar 8th month lantern festival la.

consider it lucky, that the kids get a lasting impression of a nation that is full of empty promises.

He's got a bright future as an actor, right on script.

I haven't been reading on the news related to this YOG... But isn't the touch rely supposed to be like people running throughout the whole route or is it like what was mentioned, run abit, then go up the bus??

Cos I was thinking... if they claimed that the runners are running for 6 days round Singapore bringing the torch everywhere, won't that take lots of runners??

Can someone please enlighten.

Thanks

I think that's why you get anybody unrelated to the sporting world to take hold of the flame to run...

Grassroots leaders, Mediacorp artistes, and probably even your neighbour next door in the RC.

No idea how they selected these torch bearers though...
