Strange Lineup of Speakers @ GKS State Funeral

Whether they write their own speeches,
whether the speechwriters have been hard at work,
while watching the documentary re-run of GKS on CNA now,
I can't help chuckling at the lineup of speakers at the upcoming State Funeral in Spore Conference Hall:-

1) PM Lee - of course the current Executive Head of Govt, the one who allegedly slapped a certain minister when he was a new DPM;

2) MM Lee - the elder party comrade who allegedly 'retire' him, disapproving his impending divorce

3) Dhanabalan - Temasek Holdings Chair, the minister who was allegedly slapped by the Pinkie & who himself is the alleged boss of Ho Ching, the wife of the Man who allegedlt slapped him.... a lot of contrived wayang ?!

4) First Grandson Goh Ken-Yi - son of Ms Jennie Chua & her ex-hubby Goh Kian Chee

5) Grand-niece Mrs Hui - wife of prominent anti-gay ST forummer Dr John Hui who is a Roman Catholic. Perhaps she will be the only one to recite nursery rhythms.

Any choking back tears, shedding croc-tears to come ? Tune in ....

Is this the grandest state funeral for any Singaporean to date?

I actually expected his closest cousin besides his immediate family and well respected head of the Pernakans and a true blue singaporean, Lee Kip Lee to be in the lineup. I also expected a nice solemn song composed by Kip Lee's son, Dick Lee to finish off the ceremony. That would be outstanding.

Kip Lee had the lens on from the very start and was with them in Malaya during the Malaya forum days and knows what his cousin from start to finish.

Watching the TV telecasts in the last week I can't help but feel that many people, especially those PAP MPs and civil servants, were trying to make an impact for themselves by somehow trying to associate themelves with GKS. Is this a run up to the next GE?

Secondly, knowing that GKS was a leading founding father of modern Singapore, why didn't the government invite him to special national events and occasions like the NDP and honor him. Why only sing praises over his dead body just to feel and look good for themselve????

Basically, what he said was that he was clueless except arresting people and reining in political power. The rest of economic and social matters were mostly taken care of by GKS and some others.

GKS was notoriously private and was never a politcian. He was driven by British treatment of local civil servants which he was one. He never spoke about ideology but preferred to be practical. He was also intelligent which made up for his lack of guile. He was a well known intellectual snob and had a great distaste for idiots and the grassroots were full of them. Those who know him know full well know why he did not pay for the sugar cane juice for his campaign staff. He knew they were receiving hawker and stall licences as freebies among other things.

Once he left office, he just turned down everything.

There were 3 people that were not close to old man except in politics = GKS, Raja and Chin Chye. The rest of the original guards were friends of the old man. These 3 were certainly not friend with the old man. Though Raja became closer despite his wife hating the old man with a passion.

He was also frustrated in the last of stretch of his years in cabinet. He regularly lost in decisions in cabinet. He seemed to suffer a sense of irrational fear and kept holding back on large budget items.

When LHL mentioned that when GKS heard that BG Tan Chin Tiong could not have his wife accompany him during his training overseas because it was only a year, GKS had his traning extended to more than 1 year so that TCT's wife could join him. Now isnt that cheating to get around rules? At whose expense? The tax payers' of course. More per diem expenses, more allowances, pay for wife etc. And they thought it was so clever? I wld say devious.
