Floodgates opened to foreign workers all the way till
2030 - White Paper

Our company recruited 7 China nationals who are engineers graduated from NUS
and NTU last years.

After probationary period of 3 months, we terminated 4 of them because they
could not write simple technical reports in English. We are shocked by their
standard of English (which is only about Lower Secondary Standard only) and
wonder how our local universities could have graduated them.

=> And they are probably on free scholarships with free living allowance thrown in!

It is a disgrace to NUS and NTU. The other 3 left after working another 6, 8
and 13 months.
Only one of the 7 actually was up to standard as a local
university graduate standard and she migrated to NZ.
The other 2 have good work
attitude and tried very hard but their basis engineering knowledge from their
first degree from China is not there. their standard is lower, like our poly
graduates.

From experience, we just want to tell the leaders to stop over-promoting
foreigners they are bringing into Singapore as talents. Clearly not all of them
are. They’re foreigners are just cheaper, willing to work longer hours because
their families are not here and they need the monies badly.
Do not over-rely on
them as they are not committed to Singapore and will move elsewhere (usually
Western countries) if given a chance. We always and should always count on
locally born citizens to stand up for Singapore at the end of the day. That’s
what we want to say.

Stop Calling Them Talents !

turn to other talent highlands’

Once I knew the son of a Chinese university professor had to do cleaning jobs in the states because they can't speak a word of English.

Dun discriminate people because they dun speak English lah.

If they are talent, it doesn't matter if they speak English or not.

If you do you are just one shallow fcuk.

The medium of communication in Singapore is English. If the supposed "Talent" cannot even complete a simple report in English, then how do you move the work forward? Should you also hire another translator to translate the person's work? Beyond language, I believe the article also said something about the lack of basic engineering skills, why do you only insist on tackling th language portion?

If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.

When will they ever learn...

I've said this many times before. If you go to MOM's website, you'll NEVER find the words Foreign Talent. You'll only find the words Foreign Workers, and that is what they're. FOREIGN WORKERS.

You may have the knowledge but if you can't communicate what you know, where's the value?

You are the shallow 1 here.

In Singapore, in engineering industry, if you can't communicate proficiently in english then whatever other "talent" you actually have is useless to the company. Just like you are talented in tkss but in the workplace your tkss talent is useless.

The whole point of working is that you need to communicate with others. I don't know of any job where communication is not essential. Maybe this is the explanation why service standards in SG is so poor. Because communication is not emphasised. Communication is vital because you need to collaborate with others, raise issues to superiors, instruct your subordinates and interact with the public. Lack of communication skills will eventually lead to adverse consequences for the company, especially in this globalised climate.

It is a fallacy to believe that you don't need good communication skills as long as you are good at what you do. That is only applicable if you don't have any ambition in life.

That's a different story, the topic here is foreigners, period!

If that is indeed the case, why do so few Singaporeans speak English?

Pretty sure 99% of singaporeans speak English. It is certainly not flawless but works perfect as a common language for all the different races to communicate effectively.

Son of chinese professor means he as smart as professor meh?

So you actually discriminate sons of cleaners as stupid?

As we can see from our prime ministers, being the son of a great one doesnt make you one, in fact it doesnt even cut close. Even Jackie Chan said recently, he rather Jay Chou be his successor than his own son.

Look at Singapore, to be a talent, all you require is a foreign citizenship. Brains, ethics, linguistic skills, these are optional. Government has taken to growth like a fish to water, and can't stop whoring our once great country to these talents.

Saying foreigners are cheaper and more hardworking than Singaporeans is like saying slaves are cheaper and more hardworking than free men.

Actually slaves are cheaper than free men! History has proven & wars were fought to maintain the slave trade!
