KUALA LUMPUR - An unemployed Singaporean and his wife were charged yesterday with drug trafficking and possession of weapons, including a bomb, a gun and bullets.
Tan Meng Kiat, 39, and his wife Meng Bei Bei, 25, a Chinese national, and their two friends, Singaporean Kwok Pin Hwee, 31, and a woman from Vietnam, Le Thi Thuy Nga, 28, were charged with trafficking in 88.4g of ketamine.
Kwok was also separately charged with trafficking in 611.5g of methamphetamine.
They allegedly committed the offences in an apartment at Petaling Indah Condominium, near here, at 4.30pm on Aug 13.
Thuy Nga was also charged with possession of a samurai sword, a machete and knives. However, she did not understand the charge, which was read to her in Mandarin.
If found guilty, they can be sentenced to death.
Magistrate Erry Shahriman Nor Aripin fixed Nov 1 for mention of the drug cases and to get an interpreter to read the charge to Thuy Nga in her native language.
Tan and Meng were then taken to the Sessions Court and charged with possession of an automatic gun, a loaded magazine with seven bullets, a bomb and 32 bullets.
They allegedly committed the offences at the same time and place as the drug trafficking charges.
They pleaded not guilty to the charges read to them in Mandarin.
Deputy public prosecutor Rozana Husin prosecuted. Judge Mohamad Sekeri Mamat fixed Sept 10 for mention.
