SINGAPORE: SingTel is increasing its local fixed line subscription by S$10 a year from January 1, 2009.

Local fixed line call charges will go up from 0.7 to 0.8 Singapore cents per 30-second block during peak hours or per 60-second block during off-peak hours.

Peak hours will also be revised from 8am–6pm to 9am–7pm from Mondays to Fridays.

SingTel said this is the first rate revision in 18 years and most customers will pay up to an additional S$1.50 a month with these new rates.

The company said it would provide S$1 million worth of S$10 credit vouchers to help households that need financial assistance. These vouchers will be provided through Citizens' Consultative Committees or People's Association grassroots leaders.

NBz... Increase and Increase... Pui !!!

They are just using this increment of local subsciption to cover their loss in various oversea investment.... and also to give their employees ... Performance bonus, Mid-Year bonus, Annual Bonus ... and of cos ... 13th Month....

ya lor.. the trend now is no fixed line at home... ppl just use their mobile phone... not saving much but looking at the annual saving, it is significant...

No wonder they want to increase to cover the loss of consumer... :p

To say I'm terribly disappointed and frustrated with the latest news would be a severe understatement.

good..... singaporeans deserve it.... :D:D

This is the result of mass PRIVATISATION!

Spore Power, UP. Singtel, UP. Expect more surprises!

A pay rise for the ministers and a rise in payment for Singaporeons. Seem to be a normal
PAP equation to me. " you reap what you voted."

they are trying to force everyone to go for the combination package of MIO,residential line, mobile and broadband.

they are trying to force everyone to go for the combination package.

If that is what they are gunning for...then its a bloody big mistake  Really pity those who are tied-up with their BroadBand contracts :(

While prices are falling for the rest of the world? Any more doubt that all these tariff hikes are planned in advance regardless of good or bad times? Just that in the so-called "good times", they could use that as an excuse. Expect more of such b.s. to make Sporns pay for Ho Jinx MASSIVE punting LOSSES!

But have they put in new equipment? Has their monopolistic mkt not increased with the unbridled FTrash influx?

I don't even use the Telstra land line in my student dorm for overseas calls. But even so, Telstra is surely better than Singtel.

It looks more & more certain that life isn't getting better in Singapore. Living standards are slipping downwards rapidly as long as costs keep on spiraling amidst a government which is super bo-chap.

Since the day Sinkie garment introduce F/Ts policy, cost of living has been going up and up! Rest assure more F/Ts would be seeking employment/greener pasture in Sinkipore. With the recession around the corner, sinkies would be the one to suffer most.

no increase for 18 years is not a justification for increase now, what the point of technological advancement if it is not to improve operating cost....just like the cinemas who went computerize and started charging more...what the logic, you save on manpower yet you charged for more...:confused::confused:

The CEO is trying very hard to ensure her S$5,000,000.00 is attainable for the year. Easy to increase call rates when you have the monopoly.
This trend is the same in every government linked service provider. Citizens are punished so that fat cats get fatter.
