Had an excellent meeting this morning with my good friend, Prime Minister
Christopher Luxon. Together, we launched the Singapore–New Zealand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) — a fitting milestone as we celebrate 60 years of friendship.
The CSP charts the vision for the next decade of our partnership, with more than 70 initiatives across six key pillars — from trade and supply-chain resilience, defence and security, to science, innovation, sustainability, and people-to-people ties. It is a bold and practical roadmap to future-proof our close partnership.
Among the highlights: our Agreement on Trade in Essential Supplies, the first of its kind, will ensure critical goods continue to flow even during crises; the Strategic Food Partnership will enhance food security and promote sustainable production; and we will deepen security cooperation, including in emerging areas such as unmanned technologies.
Beyond the bilateral front, both sides will continue to lead pathfinding initiatives, such as the upcoming Future of Investment and Trade Partnership (FIT-Partnership) — to promote open and fair trade, and strengthen the rules-based multilateral trading system that underpins our prosperity.
Though small in size, Singapore and New Zealand have always turned challenges into opportunities — showing how strong partnerships can deliver outsized impact. The CSP’s tagline, “Forged in history, fit for the future,” aptly captures our shared determination to build a future that is secure, resilient, and full of opportunity for our peoples.
