MP for Nee Soon GRC, Ms Lee Bee Wah (right) and her husband, Mr Soh Chee Hiang, take Blackie for a walk.

Blackie the mongrel was found abandoned at Yishun Stadium in 2004, brought by a resident to a void deck in Yishun Street 81, her "home" for three years, until a complaint animal control officers were sent into the area, galvanising over 70 residents into action.

Don't put her down, they said. All right, said MP for Nee Soon GRC, Ms Lee Bee Wah who came to the rescue and adopted the dog.

The dog is eight now (56 in human years), and less of a celebrity. But residents of Yishun Street 81 still remember her fondly. One resident recalls how Blackie was a constant "listening" companion when she grieved for her daughter who died of a blood disorder. The dog was also a fixture at community events.

In a week where a national athlete has been raked over the coals for a hit-and-run with a dog, where statistics show that animal cruelty has gone up, and horrendous pictures of cats caught in glueboard traps have surfaced, the care that Blackie has received is a heartwarming account.

Read the full story in The New Paper on Sunday (Feb 26).

That looks delicious. The limbs are not meaty but I'm sure the chest and ribs are delicious.

Why her dog not wearing a dog muzzle? Isn't that considered a big dog? I thought there is a rule that big dog owners should muzzle their dog when walking them in public?

Between the three seen in picture, better to muzzle the one walking the dog.

Lets see if they do a feel good story about the opposition MPs. I am sure they will after seeing this.

Lets have a story about LTK paragliding hobby, Pritam's billiards prowess or Sylvia's marine aquarium.

Actually that dog in the photo is Baey Yam Keng. He has revealed to everyone he is a dog. So this is his true undisguised form and Jamban Lee is so good hearted to take his fellow MP for a walk every evening.

The comments here would be very different if it was an opposition figure that walking the dog:rolleyes:

Soon all the politicians will be showing off their pets to win fans...

To call Lee Bee Wah a Dog is quite Insulting to Blackie the Cute Mongrel... Lee Bee Wah is not even fit to be called a Dog.. She is a lowlife PAP Scum..!!!

That is one lucky dog, his meals are all premium dog food from the supermarket, since Ms Lee is a million dollar earner.

It is a DOG's life for the 'lesser mortals' who are PA R I AH dogs. How come, all of sudden the "cannies" are interested in CANNIES?:p

I admire Bee Wah.
At the recent TV interview in response to reporters questions she said she was "from a poor family and love the Budget" as it addresses the concerns of the poor.
What fine words from a person who was from a poor background.
Now she has adopted a stray bitch. Truly a heart of gold.
I wonder how she keep that huge mongrel in her flat, unless of course "that poor girl" is now staying in a bungalow or other landed property.
