Firstly, the financial crisis is due to the greed of liberal capitalism, something the SDP upholds.

Secondly, yes Suharto may not have been a great sucess story but what success measurements does the SDP have then? NONE. East Asia countries had miraculous growth rates even with authoritarian governments. In contrast, if deomcracies in Africa were under ill-equipped western neo liberal policies which the international community (at that same time) promoted? IS THIS WHAT THE SDP WANTED?

Thirdly, the SDP fails t ohave any knowledge of economics and market bahaviour. It is Investors who look towards WB/IMF reports. If such reports are negative we could see a withdrawal of funds and extensive foreign interfrence somthing which did not work in the 1980s neo-liberal period, not during the 1997 AFC.

True enough but some of the mistakes are so bad that they border on ludicrous

1. Failure of corporate america ? Errr hang on everyone is talking abt the failure of wall street but not the failure of main street. Aka ther IBMs, GEs etc etc etc and Intels.

2. The high praise given to LKY and SG was given by Corporate America, Banks, Apple, GE all included. Now granted one element has flunked but the fact remains that the praises of SG were not given by Wall Street alone.

3. One can dispute over the numbers that Suharto or the Communist brought out of poverty through development, but democracies and regimes all over the world in poor and rich countries have decided its better to be rich and part of a globalized world and hopefully democratic than poor and out of the loop. 1. Is this from Chee's latest book?

2. IBAHR, though critical of certain aspects of how S'pore is run, has nonetheless acknowledged LKY's achievements, along with numerous independent international agencies. There is not the slightest doubt of what PAP has done for S'pore.

3. Political stability and good governance are paramount to a country first few phases of developments. Self-sustainability in the longer term is the more difficult part.
