Would things had be different if Lee Hsien Loong's first wife had not died?

things would have been different certainly. if the flap of a butterfly's wing in Singapore can cause a tropical storm over USA, imagine what could have happened if PM's wife was still the late Dr? :o:o:o

What makes u think that the PAP make Singapore great? The state controlled media? If PAP is the only reason why Singapore prospers, that the PAP should be able to repeat their success everywhere, outside of Singapore. One of the best cases where the PAP tried to do that is Suzhou, and what happened? What happened in Suzhou that made the PAP gave up its share to the Chinese?

If the PAP is the only reason why Singapore prospers, then they should be reaping huge profits everywhere they invest. But what is the reality? The PAP lost billions in overseas investments, and within a few short years of pumping the money in.

So answer this question: if the PAP is the only reason why Singapore prospers, why they are never able to repeat their success outside of Singapore?

if the PAP is the only reason why Singapore prospers, why they are never able to repeat their success outside of Singapore?

Because it's a well known fact that the PAP is only capable of bullying its own citizens. Just like importing foreign trash to depress the labor wages and make the GDP looks very impressive and helped themselves to higher and higher salaries year after year. It's about time to put an end to all these crooks.

I think the word "mired" is a bit strong here don't you think? There will never ever be total blissful peace and equilibrium anywhere on Earth for a prolonged period of time. There were some skirmishes and spillover (from the Federation) concerning some racial quibbles. But Sg was never mired in racial chaos. You want to know what a real racial problem is? Ask the Tutsis and Hutus. You think the PAP can handle and talk to them?

Sg's people are all immigrants. No one group has the right to claim of being disposed or deposed. They're all here to seek a peaceful, meaningful life. That means able to find work and earn money, improve themselves. They don't want anything more. Don't need to impose harsh tough laws, those are only for criminals.

Threat of Terrorism - er, that's overplayed by the media. Ask anyone ordinary man walking in the streets in Sg whether they fear Abu Sayyaf or Al Qaeda or Japanese Red Army come and bomb their house. The terrorists more commonly encountered in Peesasi are uniformed men raiding massage parlours and no license otah vendors.

English was already the working language of Peesai long before PAP was formed.

And you mentioned only The PAP can gurantee harmony for the island? I take that as you mean the PAP is holding ransom on island that there will be no harmony if they are not given the power to rule? Once voted out, they will stir trouble? Sounds right. They are into politics.

Cheers!

I don't agree. Singapore was mired in racial turbulence and social unheavals when we separated from Malaysia. Without the firm guiding hand of the PAP, we would never have achieved the level of racial and religious harmony we see today.

I think people here take Singapore's stability and tranquility for granted. Just look at the unstable and volatile region which we are in. The threat of terrorism is right at our doorstep and racial tensions lurk beneath the surface in our neighbouring countries.

Singapore by contrast is an oasis of calm and peace because the PAP Government has been very tough in its stance against racism and communalism. It has enacted strict laws and not hesistated to use maximum force to quell dissent and racial unrest. PAP's policies have brought Singaporeans closer together with a common working language -- English. We are a united country because of the stability and prosperity brought to us by the PAP.

I am very disheartened by the level of complacency in this forum and in the 40% who voted opposition. You are playing with fire if you take our racial and religious harmony for granted. Only the PAP can guarantee that for us.

The trouble with the nicks you mention is that they do not articulate their case as well as I can. They are on the right track, but they get distracted by petty issues, lose focus, and resort to being vulgar.

For all the brickbats I have received for supporting the PAP, none so far have managed to counter my points on a factual basis. The only responses I've gotten are purely emotional.

This in fact strengthens my resolve to continue arguing my case and supporting the PAP in this forum.

Kindly bring your POV over to the Politics Section so we can debate your points without the distractions. Many of us are there debating on the same issues. Will you or do you prefer to stay in this section like a few others who fear to venture there but continue creating political threads where it does not belong?

bro Scroobal can tell you better. had the brainchild of that apology been GY, we could see him in a safe zone during the last GE :o:o:o

I thought the apology was a last minute thing, a desperate attempt to save whatever was possible.

I have been surfing this forum intermittently for a few years and am saddened at the attitude displayed by many forummers here.

Singapore is a land of plenty, where opportunities abound. Yet forummers here seem to be constantly griping about the perceived lack of opportunities, the gap between the rich and poor, the high cost of living and property prices, the influx of foreigners, indeed almost every facet of Singaporean life.

Instead of pulling up their socks and buckling up their boots, sammyboy forummers seem to be content with being keyboard warriors, venting their frustrations fruitlessly and aimlessly at the PAP Government. This is silly and unproductive.

Rather than complaining endlessly and needlessly about how foreigners are competiting for jobs and pushing up the property prices, forummers should be grateful to the PAP Government for building a safe, secure and meritocratic Singapore, where effort is rewarded, where taxes are extremely low, where property rights are respected, and where there is rule of law.

In Singapore, anyone who puts in his or her fair share of effort and creativity can aim for that Pot Of Gold and strike it big. The policies put in place by the PAP Government ensures that everyone has a level playing field and a chance to build that Singapore Dream. We should welcome foreigners into our midst as they create new and better jobs for all Singaporeans. And we should welcome asset appreciation as well, as it puts money directly into our pockets, and enables all Singaporeans to retire comfortably.

So from today onwards, I will be defending PAP policies and arguing on behalf of the much-maligned PAP. Truly, forummers here are unaware of the blessings which they have, the abundant opportunities that await them in the real world. Our truly open market economy, our extraordinary low crime rate, and our vibrant entreprenural climate and pro-business environment makes Singapore one of the best places in the world to live.

For all this, we truly must thank the PAP.

You talk as if they had everything worked out but why did I get the feeling when they gave interviews on TV they looked extremely confused and distressed?

all i did was to extrapolate and raise a couple of conjectures by on my understanding of how things work. it isn't rocket science :o:o:o

Just in case you missed my previous posts, here's a recap. The PAP singlehandedly vanquished the communist threat by imprisoning violent communist insurgents and discrediting their ideology once and for all. The PAP brought racial and religious harmony to Singapore by enacting and rigorously enforcing tough laws that have stood the test of time. The HDB racial quota in particular has prevented the seeds of communalism from germinating. English has united all the races and has given us trememdous leverage in international trade and relations.

But that is just the tip of the iceberg. The PAP has brought a tremendous amount of foreign investment into Singapore by leveraging on their vast network of international business contacts and industry partners. That in turn has created a humongous number of jobs for all Singaporeans, developed our industries, and made us the financial and services hub of South East Asia.

The influx of foreigners even further enhances our competitiveness, resulting in an even greater amount of job creation for Singaporeans. Singaporeans can retire comfortably as a result of asset enhancement. Name me one other country where the home you live in is the best possible investment your family will ever make!

Finally, do not ever forget the security and stability that the PAP has given us. Our Armed Forces keep our borders safe, and we are an oasis of calm and peace in a turbulent and unstable region. Our crime rate is extremely low, people can go home every night and party every night without fearing that they would get mugged or worse. Singapore is the safest place in the world, safer than even the most upscale neighbourhoods in new york, New zealand or Toronto.

Happy New Year folks! First post of the year let me start off the year by flaming our new convert!

Firstly I would like to direct you to some of the threads here discussing Quan Yi Feng's stunning acquittal. Over the last few months there have been several threads discussing the inadequacy of the judiciary in enforcing the laws of the land on foreign nationals. From Quan to that Ozzie/Anzac twat jumping bail, to some grungy east European embassy whore-son who fled the island after a hit-and-run accident, the parallels are similar. It is said SG has a harsh criminal justice system, but if it is applied equally to all residents I have few complaints. These incidents draw suspicions that certain elevated parts of society and foreign nationals are exempt from these same laws that are specially meted out to people who call this island home. My citizenship rights in the justice system compares to that of felons and criminals elements from basket case nations. That is a grievous insult!

I see failures of the administration as a failure to oversee the bureaucracy, or more likely the result of undue influence by a privileged class on the organs of government like the judiciary. PAP by virtue of being the party in power has to take exception of these occurrences as signs that something is amiss (or perhaps it was never an unusual occurrence for them). They have on many occasions failed to enforce the laws of the land uniformly and fairly to all. That cannot be good.

Oh, and thank you for your post. The economy has benefited substantially from PAP's presence in Singapore, despite some imperfections. However I think you need to stop congratulating the party for its past success and start examining how the party has avoided addressing some prickly issues despite being having most well-paid, most "incentivised" public servants and politicians compared to the rest of the developed world.

Why bother to reason out with Idiots? Just FUCK them direct into their face! Talk and talk and talk for what? OTC KAN NI NA BU PHUA CHEE BYE!:oIo:
