Ezlink Top Up Scammers

Discussion

Hi all, just wanted to share something happening recently at Changi MRT Station around the EZ-Link top-up area. Not sure if it’s only there, but please stay alert.

My friend was visiting Singapore and about to leave when a woman approached them asking for help to top up her EZ-Link card at the kiosk. Out of kindness, they paid using their own money and later felt regretful. I don’t have details of the person’s appearance, but a report has been made and hopefully CCTV or more staff can help.

Among my peers, some mentioned encountering similar situations involving in spliting groups approaching random commuters instead of SMRT staff.

This feels similar to older cases of people lingering around HDB blocks or parks asking for urgent bus or taxi money repeatedly.

I’m not saying don't help others. Personally, I would guide them to use the machine themselves or direct them to SMRT staff instead. If you genuinely believe someone is truly in need, then by all means, help if you wish.

Please stay aware, pause and think twice to strangers. Stay safe everyone.
