Changing residential address to grandparents house for financial aid
GeneralContext: Entering university, low income background and looking to change address for financial aid
I do not come from a well to do family and am currently able to qualify for financial aid. However one of my siblings recently graduated from a local university and found a job, thus increasing my household income.
I was previously eligible for higher education community bursary (HECB) tier 1, but am now only eligible for higher education bursary tier 1 (HEB) as my older siblings income is about 4500 thus bumping my household income to about just under 8000 and per capita to just slightly under 2000.
This represents a significant change to my tuition fees, I would previously have received a full subsidy for uni as I would have qualified for both my universities own financial aid as well as HECB. Right now however, my aid package has fallen from 17000 (gov + uni subsidy + living expenses subsidy) to just about 3500
while I know my older sibling is technically able to subsidse my education I would really prefer not to burden them especially since they have literally just started working.
Anyway a friend of mine suggested changing my residential address to my retired grandparents, who live within walking distance and are retired with little income (only working part time) thus allowing me to qualify for aid again.
I have figured out the process of changing my address, however my main question would be what are the implications of changing my residential address.
also would I able still be able to visit my original house and stay with my parents occasionally or can I only exclusively live at my grandparents house? I also understand all official government letters will be diverted to my grandparents address now but that shouldn't be a problem due to close proximity.
any and all help on this matter would be deeply appreciated
