Anyone experience this new Whatsapp scam / hack?​

Hello, today a number i didn’t recognize texted me on whatsapp acting like they know me.

However, when i opened the message, there was a previous chat history with this number but the chat history was actually originally one i had with my brother.

Problem is my brother didn’t change his number, and i called him to verify if it was him and he said no. Also, all the group chats we were mutuals in disappeared.

However after much probing, the person realized i was onto him and deleted all the chat records and after that the group chats reappeared.

I’ve never encounter this type of hack(?) / scam before, so i’m concern if my phone has been compromised. I am using an iphone btw

And if it’s not a hack, how did they even get my chat history with another person but placed in my chat “history” with them
