A pretty convincing Prudential scam
Serious DiscussionI got a pretty convincing scam call involving Prudential scam just now. Posting to help those who don't know, or as a reminder for those who already know.
The scam starts off with someone calling and telling me they received an application last month using my nric details for a Prudential plan. When I said it's not me, they said I may be a victim of a scam (the irony is not lost on me) and they wanted me to call a number to help cancel the plan + report it. It was almost convincing because they used a real Prudential plan name and the attacker spoke in perfect english. It also came from a Singapore number (no +65).
However there were some red flags that immediately clued me in that it was a scam so I almost immediately stopped engaging, but I shall not list them here so the attackers cannot learn from this post.
My guess is that if I kept engaging and called the number they wanted me to, they'll try to scam me somehow.
TL;DR:
Insurance, banks, the police won't call you in regard of a serious topic like this. If you do receive a call from them, hang up and don't engage. Then if you want to double check, call them up yourself using the official number, not a number they give you (actually go to the official website and find the number, don't rely on google bc that can be spoofed too).
