Which is the best public hospital in Singapore? Even if you think that all of them are lousy, which is the best of the rotten? For me, I will have to give my vote to SGH due to 2 personal experience.

1. Some years ago, I accompanied my then gf to see a orthopedic at SGH and a doctor was assigned to her. The doctor was a newbie and could not pinpoint the problem. The head of orthopedic was making his round that day and he saw our problem. He simply came up, pressed his fingers against a point near to her shoulder and she began to scream in pain. I guess this comes with experience.

2. My grandma was warded at TTSH few weeks ago and they couldn't find out what was wrong with her and discharged her. 1 week later, she had the same problem of breathlessness and heart pain and chose to go to SGH. It was there that they diagnose her to have fluid near the heart and there was a problem with one of the artery. The doctor suggested surgery but we were hesitant because of her old age and the risks was high. The next day, she suffered a sudden bout of pain and was whisked in for emergency operation. That operation saved her life and I was really impressed with the young surgeon. He came out with a pale face and he could not stand properly. That 8 hours of operation must have really drained him out.

I remembered reading in this forum that LKY sent his wife to SGH last time when she was sick. Why is SGH preferred? Any insider stories? :D

is it becos most of the specialist clinics r there? xcept for gynae...LOL

SGH for sure. Saved my life in 1999 during major surgery. Dats why SGH = Sure Go Home.

Dont go Changi if possible . They lost my father in law's i/c after admission. Then they denied losing it. A few weeks after he died in hospital they called us up and asked us to collect his i/c as if nothing happened.

Then about 1 year later my mother in law was admitted ( also CGH ) . They lost her set of full dentures. They eventually admitted their mistake and replaced these dentures. It caused my MIL a lot of discomfort for a few months....which were the last few months of her life anyway.

CGH no good . CGH usually = Cant Go Home.

they missed a few. Some running around the world....Bangkok then Oz. Some got funny numbers as surname while another has an unnatural attraction to a body of water in the Bedok/Kaki Bukit area.

IMH for keeping the loonies off the streets.

Been to SGH and AH. SGH you already mentioned. AH is a very old hospital but the surrounding is very pleasant and quiet. Another hospital with green surrounding is KK.

Ah yes KK is not bad. My friend's son was warded there when he was about 1 yr old cos of twisted intestines. Pre and post surgery they were really good. Very reassuring and always tried to keep the worried parents calm and updated.

The women's ward is also quite good. When sister 666 was pregnant and went there she was treated very well although she was calling all the staff members there GAY and RETARDED:p

Don't know why but I prefer the surroundings of old hospitals like the Old Changi Hospital and Alexandra.. They got alot of greenery surroundings unlike newer hospitals like CGH which is all concrete and dour looking... My then GF who is now my wife was admitted to TTS hospital years back due to her severe gastric problems.. Found the staff there attentive to her needs..
