Its just a phase. Most asians grew up in an impoverished country. Having, gotten a bit more money now, they want to show they have "made it". Buying branded, luxury items, is a way of showing your wealth, and that you are no longer poor and can afford things like this. It also is a psychological signal that they are so "wealthy" they can throw money at getting really expensive items, hence a good indication they could be good partner to start a family. Think of SPGs that crave for Kate spades, LV etc. Most groups that comes from a poor background tend to splurge on items like these. Even the African American, once they made it, buys big gold chains to show this off. Compared to the Caucasians, like Warren Buffett, which still stays in the shabby house he bought 30 years ago.
