</td></tr> </tbody></table> <!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--> A VIDEO posted online of an 18-year-old junior college student tied to a chin-up bar and having birthday cake smeared on her face has caused an uproar. The video, originally uploaded on video sharing website YouTube two months ago, has since been taken down. But a copy of it was sent to The Straits Times' interactive portal Stomp yesterday and was uploaded, drawing a firestorm of comments.

</td> </tr> </tbody></table> <!-- Background Story --> </td></tr> </tbody></table> Many Stomp users said the Anglo-Chinese Junior College student was being bullied and humiliated by her friends. But students who witnessed the incident, as well as the school's administration, said the prank was done in good fun.
In the clip, the teen was dragged by a group of other girls and tied to the chin-up bar and force-fed cake. The prank ended when a teacher stepped in.
Stomp users said the girl was clearly not having fun. She was screaming and at times looked like she was crying. Others asked why witnesses to the incident failed to intervene earlier, and said the video reflected badly on the school.
Principal Kelvyna Chan, referring to the outrage expressed over the prank, said the video had been wrongly interpreted as a case of bullying when it was a birthday celebration between good friends, 'as seen by the laughter shared by the birthday girl and her friends'.
She also said the girl at the centre of the prank had assured the teacher who stopped it that it was all in fun.
Mrs Chan added: 'Although the activity was done in good humour, the college has counselled the students involved on the possible hazards of such activities and told them that there were more appropriate ways to show friendship among peers.'
One of the girl's classmates, declining to be named, described her as 'outgoing and fun' and that she had agreed to the 'ragging'.
He said: 'I think this was fine because she was okay with her friends having fun. But it depends on your personal preference. It would be wrong to force someone to be part of something he or she does not want to be involved in.'

ACJC hazing: Why is principal on side of students who humiliated girl?

STOMPer Outraged is upset that the principal of ACJC seems to be on the side of her students who humiliated a girl during a birthday celebration.

He had earlier sent in a video of an ACJC student tied to a chin-up bar, had cake stuffed in her face, and was blatantly humiliated right in school.

The principal of ACJC had replied to the posting, saying that the student was popular with her peers, and the students involved had been counselled to show friendship in other ways.

She said however, that STOMPer Outraged had erronously interpreted the video as as a case of bullying, when in fact it was a birthday celebration amongst good friends.

STOMPer Outraged sent a reply in response to the statement from the principal.

He said:

"Please do not overlook the incident or brush it off as a misintepreted case -- the well-being of students and concerns of parents deserve to be justified.

"Now that the school appears to side the people who were part of the 'celebration'.

"To disregard such cases will not solve the problem.

"What is flawed with the system? I've never been taught that tying a person, pouring food and throwing food repeatedly isn't malice nor bullying.

"Why wasn't the tag 'loser' addressed?

"If it is as what was mentioned a 'celebration', and that there was no malice nor bullying involved, why was she struggling during the entire ragging session?

"It is obvious she wasn't willing.

"Not to mention at one point of the video, when she sat up, another person slapped her forehead subsequently making her fall back.

"Referring to the line, 'Although the activity was done in good humour'.

"How is this humour? I don't think this would be fun if the next day your daughter, or sister or even you are treated that way.

"Ignoring such incidents will not solve the problem.

"Yes, the small group of people may have been counselled.

"What about the tens of thousands of other students?

"What about the next generation of students?

"And referring to this line: 'The College is aware of the incident which was a birthday celebration of a student who was popular with her peers' -- the college sees it as a birthday celebration.

"I believe the majority of parents in Singapore are concerned with the welfare of their children studying and they deserve every right to be assured that their child will not be harmed emotionally or physically through celebrating birthdays in such manner.

"As these acts aren't condemned and there are no specific actions nor revisions on school rules on this.

"The bottomline is, be it bullying or not, such acts should not be overlooked.

"Like a frog in a boiling pot.

"Ignoring one incident will not erase the problems.

"If such acts aren't condemned, soon more will emulate such 'celebrations' in there schools and it will go out of hand.

"There have been several shootings in the USA that resulted from bullying cases and not to menton suicides due to emotional distress caused by peers.

"Are we going to ignore this, then wait till something much more severe to happen, before action is finally taken?

"Please justify the well-being of students and also parents of Singapore who deserve the rights to ensure their children are in a safe envrionment."

i have finished watching the whole video

no big deal. i have done worst things to my friends during their bday and kana super jia lat one before also.

my worst experience is as follows;

18 of my friends all peed into a pail and diluted it with car washed water. and all
those that have thier bday fall on feb will kana tied up and "bath" in it.

after bathing then we will have the usual flag pole ceremony where its the time we will conduct the following test;

1) is ur dick harder or the flag pole? by knocking against it
2) can our dick be used to polish the flag pole?

other kind of celebrations are similar to what is being shown in the scdf video. my boss also commented that they do play such things in army as well. but theirs is a bit too much even on my scale.

burn pubic hair. knn LOL. those who make a big fuss about this incident are those petty idiots in chinese what we say; "wan bu qi". if i am there, what you see in the video is just the beginning.

i will gather everyone up and start tickling her, prehaps grab a ants or some insect let it crawl on her. tons of idea which have being recycled and being passed down over the generations. what they do here is nothing new nor innovative. lousy

this little episode of ragging is considered mild compared to the sexual orientation initiation activities in the local unis. there's also growing trend of stripping bloggers too. tammy already paved the way by doing it raw when starring in the home made porn.

this is early indication that our future generation is getting tuned up & ready for the industry needs for our adult entertainment scene. sure to thrive when the IR is up & running.

brillant idea! the principal and teachers should be treated prior to any one else a.s.a.p. to decide whether they would keep this as a school tradition.
