Emcee makes rude blooper at Ngee Ann Poly graduation ceremony

What was supposed to be a proud moment for a Ngee Ann Poly graduate turned into an embarrassing incident when his surname was mispronounced in the rudest way possible.

Many STOMPers alerted STOMP to the video after viewing it online.

One of the STOMPers said:

"The emcee of the ceremony mispronounced a student's name. The name was pronounced as a vulgarity."

That's a very badly orchestrated joke. And a very insensitive one too. Poly peeps, sigh. The emcee should be lynched and then be made to apologise to the student in front of the whole school.

Its pretty outrageous - considering that the MC did not even bother to correct the name. Ganesan is not that difficult a name as anyone who grew up watching the Singapore football teams of the 1970s and 1980s will know!

I think it is a genuine mistake.

I had a great laugh.

From the way the MC pronounces the chinese names, it is quite obvious to me he is an ah beng type used to swearing 'knn & kanasai'.... that's why his mind made the conditioned reflex pronounciation without reading the syllables carefully GAN-NE-SON which is a fairly common Indian name.

Another common Indian Name that always also evoke a chuckle or two is:-
" Karthigasu " ....

I always heard it pronounced as 'Katek Kiasu' !

If this is the best choice for MC that Ngee Ann Poly could come up with, he speaks a lot for the standard of English there.

That isn't anything funny about that. It is obvious that is a mistake. If he pronounces it as sinkienia, then it is funny.
