The long forlorn cry of G Yeo to save his political skin comes to mind. Facing defeat, he promises to be the voice of reform for the PAP. Budget 2013 could have saved Georgie in 2011, but it was not put into play. KBW and Tharmen per 2011, worked within I believe the conservative constraints within the cardinals of the PAP, the constraints were likewise only released after 2011, Aljunied, PE, Hougang BE and the PE BE.

KBW had his dues for loyalty the position of Chairman within the party, Tharmen despite his popularity within the party is only first assistant sec gen. In my view, the power structures within a party like the PAP is very different from the perceived pecking order outside.

G Yeo promised to b e voice of reform within the PAP, It was a comment that was strange to me then but I thought no more of it till now. Why voice within the PAP, Why not voice within the government, after all its the government which runs Singapore right ?

Who are the people within the party, the conservatives defending the status quo, How do they control discipline within that model ? I can,t see it at all, but perhaps just perhaps with the Sing Con HSK is just fulfilling the PAP requirements of stage management as a prove of political loyalty.

Why did the man refuse to listen when told about the price differential, when told that it was not the recognised official distributor and there is no guarantee that is acceptable could not be bothered.

HSK surprised many over the National COnversation matter especially those who know and worked with him. We are not talking about Viv B who has been a political animal since school days, visiting Raja uninvited and cultivating his mentor Arthur Lim. It was no surprise that despite his dramatic maiden speech of slaying the dragon, when the party leadership gave him the casino question to bloody he followed the script passionately and has been on the programme since.

The question the begs an answer is why despite being the senior in the programme, Tharman's credibility has grown, well respected by both sides of the house and by all and yet Khaw's is in the drain and HSK has started badly.

PAP, YPAP, PA all have forums and politics are front and centre. I am sure selling funeral blankets is not the topic of interest so why their heavy presence. He holds a cabinet position and yet he allowed the charade to go on. If it had not been for the internet, no one will the wiser.

(a) The "voice of reform" was George Yeo's clutching at straws. The LTK/Sylvia combo was a confirmed winner, you better than anyone in this forum that if that was not a confirmed winner, LTK would not have ventured out of HG. In a sense, "voice of reform" was a statement directed at his own party too. GY is not a stupid man. Despite his clumsy initial steps into politics two decades ago, he sees things with clarity.

(b) Tharman is deeply intelligent, not a hard core political animal but a good team player. His glossy image is because his portfolio allows him to shine. He is not regarded as a political threat to anyone because he has already reached the zenith of his career.

(c) KBW is a disappointment after his $8 fiasco and after that it's been series of stumbling steps.

(d) HSK has potential to be a fresh face for the party, but unfortunately till today, no promise to change the status quo and drawn into the vortex of groupthink and party loyalism.

The biggest stumbling block is LHL himself. He is a poor leader, he changes appointments seemingly randomly and in response to populist sentiment, he does not seem to have consistent direction.

He tries to portray himself as having a vision for the long term but everything leading up to whatever his ultimate goal is comes in bits and pieces, and in disarray.

He is disorganized, disoriented. Forever firefighting, not addressing the root of the problems. Even if there are good ministers willing to stand up to be counted, also not much use under his haphazard leadership.

1. One came from much poorer family background compared to the other
2. One made an impression in school and one did not.
3. One mixed well with his school cohort and one did not.
4. One did his NS in the Army and the other did it in the Police
5. One mixed well with his NS mates and the other was quiet and aloof
6. One speaks well in public and the other does not.
7. One connects easily with the people and the other struggles.
8. One had to hold a national conversation to find out the country's issues, while the other presumably walked the ground, went online and formed views.
