Quah Kim Song is a name that remains on many a coffee-shop uncle’s lips.


During his heyday in the 1970s, the ex-Singapore footballer was a nippy forward who left opposition defenders trailing in his wake. He is perhaps most famous for netting a brace in Singapore’s 1977 Malaysia Cup win at the Merdeka Stadium in Kuala Lumpur.


More than three decades on, Quah, now 61, is still making heartland news – but this time, for weaving his way into the affections of Singapore opposition politician Sylvia Lim.


The chairperson of the Workers’ Party (WP) told The Straits Times on Saturday that the two have been dating for the past six months.


The couple – both Catholics – first met at a WP variety show in January where Quah, invited as special guest, sang and danced with Lim, who is 48 and single.


The youngest of the sporting Quah brothers – three played football for Singapore, one was a triple jumper – must have swept Lim, an Aljunied Member of Parliament, off her feet.


Local press quoted Quah, a widower with two children, saying they “hope to be together for a long time.”
And for that to happen, the topic of politics is off-limits for the lovebirds, according to Straits Times.


“I know her as Sylvia Lim, and not Sylvia Lim, chairman of WP,” said Quah, who quit as Singapore football’s Director of Competitions in 2010.


Lim, a former police inspector and lawyer by profession, agreed. “We try not to talk about politics if we can.’’

Look at it this way. Quah was a national hero, so he cant do wrong. If he has been smitten by SL, surely it must be a good choice, right? That enhances SL's image and respectabiltiy. One will find it extremely hard to think of SL as a destructive Opposition party Chairman anymore, but as a loving partner and companion wanted and sought out by Singapore's most popular soccer hero!

Way to go, WP! More WP members should pair up with national heroes and heroines. just imagine the Kallang roar from the crowd when QKS appears with SL at the next GE!
