please don't romanticize about sg's past. this is the real untold sg history.....only jobs available for newly arrived immigrants then were rickshaw pullers and coolies in warehouses by the sg river.

last noted, trishaws outnumbered rickshaws by 1930

age of mechanization, and it was easier on the legs....:p

but it was still labor-intensive nonetheless.

Lar piah is 月饼? Don't really like it too much either..................

But I like the story from 倚天屠龙记. :p

张无忌 gathered his sect members in the open area late at night and told them that as part of their revolt against the Mongols, they would be sending secret messages embedded in a kind of biscuit. Since the moon was shining brightly then, he decided to name the biscuits 月饼. :D

mid autumn festival coming, buying any lar piah or not?

remember this kampong?

they are easily controllable and confined within minutes, unlike ramshackle makeshift slums and villages that can add fuel to the fire and help it spread quickly like the fire-bombing of tokyo.

sinkies' common identity past, present, and future.....walking in shorts and slippers in the streets, sometimes shirtless. :p
