Yes, I asked some top legal eagles. A thank you is a response to a gift. A thank you is not a bargain. NSP didn't bargain for a thank you from Sylvia in return for giving up Macpherson. If anything, a thank you proves the acceptor receives the offer as a gift.
A consideration must be something of value in the eyes of law, not love or affection, let alone words expressing gratitude.
Sylvia Lim has paid the due consideration to NSP's offer. So there was offer and acceptance.
