By Amelia Tan

Singapore maid agencies are being barred from taking out new licences to source for workers in the Philippines in a move by Manila to crack down on firms flouting its rules.

The country's embassy will limit the number of licensed companies to the current pool of about 100 and new applications will be rejected.

Philippine labour attache Vicente Cabe confirmed that the new policy came into effect on June 1 and is the next phase of efforts by the embassy to enforce its rules.

The Philippine government wants employers to bear domestic workers' placement fees, which cost $2,000 on average, or four months' salary.

KEEPING CLOSER TABS

By limiting the number of licensed agencies, I will be able to monitor them more closely and get them to follow the rules.

Pinoypines is yet another fucked up country with "blame thy rich neighbour" syndrome.
Guess who are the ones behind these "Singapore" companies? I presume they are purely run by Sinkies with no Pinoys involved

Sure or not? No more license will be issued?
Pinoy land so corrupted, give them some "sugar" and they will flood Sillypore with more pinoys.

This we can say it is self inflicted, the domestic helpers (DH) spend more than they earn, on silly things like phone bills, fancy mobile phones, they can ill afford & even tablets. I have seen Phil DH using Samsung 4s, Samsung tablets etc.. I have even come across a goofy looking one, near where I live, on Face book. These are just a few examples of "self inflicted". The other would be, their people back home, thinks that, those working here are 'gold mines', they mint 'gold'. Yes, some do work hard & luck enough to have good employer who pay them well & help them financially, the majority, are just show offs. A portion, make additional money on off days ( now they have 4), at Orchard Towers, Orchard Plaza, Ming Arcade & who knows where else.

Those coming out to work from the Philippines know, how much it cost them, to pay their contacts over there, the agents here & so forth. They are aware of the salary deductions & the loan they take themselves in making their way from the province to Manila & to wherever they are going. It is not the agents deduction that is "killing" them, but their other loans they take on the way out of the country, is. Does the NGO's know this? or the Phil government, rather hammering at the agent placement fees??

Even if they do not need to pay the agent placement fees, their out of pocket expenses, in which they take loan, will put them in perpetual debt. Like I had mentioned, "self inflcted"& while they are here, they spend more than they make on things I have already mentioned & others. That is why, it is not difficult to see many of them, with Bnaglas, Ah neh's boy friends..."honey for money".

Not many of the employers here would want to pay the 4 mths placement fees that come to S$2,000, the Phil DH recommended salary by the Phil Embassy ( in which they insist) is S$600 per month, & every Sunday off,the every Sunday off has now became a problem for many of them, they have off days, but they do not have money. ( a rising dangerous social problem).

Their problems are largely self inflicted, in time to come, we will see lesser Phil DH, & those who still work here & those coming here, will become a niche market, for those who really need them & can afford them.

"self inflicted"..:D

That's a good news. No more pinoys coming. The gap can be filled by the Thais or Burmese. I find Burmese are much better worker and much more humble than the pinoys.

Oh they're still coming alright... to take the PMET jobs.

I've seen for myself the Pinoy dental assistants, teachers and engineers. So, it's not just the hospitality industry jobs or call centre jobs.

Pinoys have entitlement mentality. We should get maid from more humble countries like Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. Given a few years, maybe even Greeks and Italians can apply to be maids.

Good riddance and Singapore parents please start taking charge of your own family lives. For the non-NS serving spouses, please pickup some area cleaning skills from your NSMen spouses.

To all Pinoys and Pinays : Matalek back to your chicken coops and sky high rubbish dumps in Filipiniland !:oIo:

It would be a nice change. Never liked these pinoy maids most of them have an attitude problem and like to talk back. For me I prefer indo maids but some are really useless must tell them how to do everything. Don't know why but indo maids got this problem hiding keeping food in their bedroom until its infested with ants. Its not like we got no food in the house or ration her food but somehow they always keep sweet stuff in their bedroom drawers and then come tell us her room is infested with ants.

It is called survival instinct, you have never been that poor, that any morsel of food you get, you consume a portion, the rest, you stash away somewhere safely, for you may not know, WHEN will be your next meal.

Dogs, do that too instinctively, they will take that food you give it...bring to a corner & eat there & most of the time, stash it somewhere in the house & if you have a garden, dig a hole bury it & dig it up later..:D

This is call survival instinct...which is lacking in SINgaporeans today...

Time to build a spanking new shopping centre over it. Lucky Plaza is an eyesore right in the heart of our shopping belt.

Lucky Plaza, like other older shopping malls (e.g. Beauty World, City Plaza, Far East Plaza) are our connections to the past.

Not everything has to become ION Orchard or Ngee Ann City.

Don't under estimate this old building. You will be shocked what kind of rentals it generates.

Funny people here like to bash ST but come up with thread title like this.
