Moved to Singapore 2 years ago and spent weeks confused about the whole maid hiring process. Nobody explains it clearly agencies are sales-focused, friends give conflicting advice, and Google just shows you paid ads.
After going through the process myself, here's what I wish someone had told me:
1. Don't call agencies blindly. Most people Google "maid agency Singapore" and call the first three results. That's how you end up overpaying or getting mismatched helpers.
2. Compare agencies before committing.I found searchmaid.com.sg which honestly made the whole process less overwhelming you can browse thousands of helper profiles and compare MOM-licensed agencies side by side without any sales pressure.
3. Always interview before deciding.Any agency that skips this step or rushes you is a red flag. A good match takes a conversation, not just a biodata form.
4. Understand the real costs upfront.Placement fee, levy, insurance, medical get all of this in writing before signing anything.
Took me three tries to figure this out. Hopefully this saves someone here the same headache.
Happy to answer questions if anyone is going through this process right now!
