Newbies in Moderation

My suggestion is not a cure all. But I believe it makes the sockpuppet masters work harder and put a strain their stamina. Those without the stamina would reduce the number of clones due to the contrains introduced by the formula. And it would help filter and corner the tenacious ones.

There are several objects of my suggestion, some are to encourage participation and quality. Though my posts were of no quality:( but I would like to see more, and am sure there are many genuine newbies or lurkers who are talented:)

The sock puppets are making Sam enforce harsh rules, and that is keeping genuine people out.

I don't like what is happening. Some people want to get in but can't because the old timers here are reproducing like rabbits.

thxs scrooby kor kor...:(:o

I will probably need his help. I step in when someone is getting bullied. I did it with TSR, Krafty, EW69 and a few. Nearly all of them got the message.

Harsh rules???? me?????

I've been accused countless times of letting everyone run wild here but I've never, ever been accused of being too strict in my life. This is the very first time!!!!

As far as I'm concerned, people can have as many accounts as they want.

see,see your chee bye!

i will be ok when i see that lky's cronies receive their bad karma...:o

Sorry for being mean to you last time too. I didn't know you had revealed so much of yourself already.

But do consider seeing a professional.

You let clones run wild but keep newbies out.

Hahaha... I shall take Red Amoebe advice and leave you all ego maniac guys do the trash talking, whahaha.... whatever it is, those who mentioned points are nothing and did not affected them in the forum are all fakes themselves, hahaha....

Points are "something" when they are used for malicious intent to fuck up the forum.:(

I do absolutely nothing to keep newbies out. All I do is keep spam out. Every single member here save a few who joined in the first couple of weeks has gone through the same process of posting a few messages into the moderation queue before they start posting live less than 24 hours later.

If I'd kept the newbies out, there'd be only 300 accounts here instead of more than 24,000.

I honestly cannot remember terminating any newbie account before they had a chance to post live. 99 % of newbies have become full fledged members within 48 hours.

Clones can run wild but remove their bite. The alogrithm for awarding rep power in the point system encourages new clones created to hibernate.

It's like a computer game. Strategy is important. There's nothing wrong with a few rep points wars here and there. It makes for interesting viewing.

I agree. It's good fun watching the forum otakus doing their thang. But kind of freakish when the otaku starts to talk with himself though. ;)

If that's truly the case, then I think the current system should stay. 48hrs is not a lot to expect.

At the end of the day, all I'm doing is trying to create a microcosm of real life in this little forum. The reputation points system facilitates an added dimension to the verbal sparring that goes on. It's a feature that can be used to mimic the backstabbing, cronyism and gang warfare that exists in the real world.

Why anyone would want me to get rid of it or tone it down is beyond me. :p

You still think the issue is about rep points?

The only problem is there are some who post 1 or 2 messages, then go... "DUH!... where did my post go????" and don't post again. These are the ones who get stuck in moderation for months. 2 to 3 messages simply isn't enough no matter how I adjust the algorithm.

I remember nicks like Goldendragon were making good posts but stuck in moderation for an extended period. The algo must be reviewed from time to time.
