To obedient and timely Rally applause, PM Lee unveiled the Government’s big plans for the days ahead. We’re talking about levelling up socio-economic groups and evening the playing field through housing and healthcare policy changes. As Singapore efficiently and ruthlessly ploughed its way forward to the present, the Government’s “tough love” emphasis on individual competence fostered an unhappy culture of competitiveness that sieves out people of privilege at the expense of others. The Government’s new commitment to state-support certainly signals that it is listening to the people. Better yet, it is working to rectify this glitch in the system, and taking a decisive step towards a fair and just society.
