My experience with Singpost

I enjoyed roaming GPO, now The Fullerton Hotel, like you had mentioned the aircon, the stamps, or just buying some or sending it out on covers. Fortunately your arm did not get stuck in the post box, they made of thick metal.

What I remember of Fullerton was that there were these sound proof telephone booths where you could make long distance calls. Fullerton was also where you had to go if you received overseas packages. They could then determine if you had to pay taxes:)

Don't try. There is a lot of complaints on missing items. That's why people prefer to use courier services even locally.

This was not so long ago,you go to GPO pay a fee to the counter, give them the overseas number you want to call and they connect you to the booth, was it 5 mins or 10 mins, you get a warning beep, before you are disconnected; now, we can make long distance calls on our mobile phones. What's the name of the building along Robinson Rd, where one go to send out a telegram & receive one? I remember having to go there, to receive a congratulatory telegram from my Japanese colleague. That was before the facsimile machine became cheap & there was no electronic mail or text message from mobile phone. The world have really goe do fast forward, the telegram was received in 1980 +

Back in the old days telegrams were expensive things, it was charged by the word & was only sent for serious purposes.
For me telegrams bring up sad memories. The only time my family received or sent them was about the death of someone.

Unlike today where communication is so cheap via email, VOIP, etc. May even prevent future LKYs from ever dominating Spore politics:confused:

In the past, it was , the parcel will go to the nearest PO near you, the next working day you go there & collect the parcel, during workig hours or call 1605 to arrange for a delivery. If you do not collect the parcel by a certai number of days, it goes to Singpost HQ, and one will have to make a trip there.

I kena this also. The nearest P.O. from home was 3 minutes walk to Jurong Point and they made me go all the way to Paya Lebar HQ the following day I called them up. I blasted them then. My parcel item is not special item that needs special storage facility nor is it very big. Now still never change. Not that we do not want to give feedback to help them serve us better, but it is very apparent that they only react to people with power and ranks or super VIP people. I have long given up hopes on them. Let them be.... :(

After I talked to the person manning the general line, I received a feedback questionaire. The only problem is that the questions were specific to the performance of the agent & not why I had to call the general line in the 1st place i.e their screwed procedures

Now I understand why people are always satisfied with the PAP in those nameless surveys
