One of the women is Asra Nomani who wrote the following article about why she doesn't wear a hijab, and that it's a wrong idea that Islam requires Muslim women to wear the hijab.

The other Muslim woman who is against the forced wearing of the tudung is Malaysian activist Maryam Lee :

SINGAPORE - Muslim nurses who do not wish to wear the tudung should not be pressured to do so, or be judged by their decision, said Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Masagos Zulkifli on Sunday (Aug 29).

He said he was confident that Muslim nurses here would put the care of their patients first, whether or not they decide to don the tudung as part of their uniform.

Putting pressure on others is against the teachings of Islam, he added. "We frown upon (the behaviour) to force anyone to practise our religion, to believe in particular aspects of our doctrines," he said.

Its up to the person if she want to wear tudung or not. That option in nursing is now available, not just for malays, but others too.

Progressive thinking "Educated Malays" are cool to drink alcohol and eat at non halal establishments (just order non pork dishes) with non Malay friends .... But their pretence start as soon as other Malays are present. Then they will stick to the strict Muslim traditions because other Muslims are watching. What a schizophrenic existence they have to live

Muslim seem to live by the code of honour.should one of their fellow Muslim is caught committing a sinful act according to their religion they are judged ,shamed and shunned .at least that is what is happening in singapore.in other countries they'll get sentenced or even lose their life

If one person starts to wear later the whole caravan will join.later they'll demand this and that.

Did not the mudslimes say it's compulsory to wear? But now it's voluntary? I am confused too

What a beautiful religion...needs to be enforced upon its believers.

young female adults should wear like this. it comes with the added benefits.

their male counterparts would be less excited when seeing woman
camels abuse would naturally be reduced greatly.
it remove the false stigma of a female showing her hair and fresh in the public.
