Don't discount the possibility that it's her obsession with the shops based on her narrow retail background and the potential revenue they could generate from rent that has led to the current problems.
She was the CEO for many years. And the breakdowns, errr, I mean disruptions, errr, I mean train withdrawals, are happening with great frequency now.
The current CEO unfortunately has to bear the brunt of all her previous shortcomings.

Lack of investment in infrastructure during her time as CEO which are causing all the problems now?
What SMRT need is someone like Mike Brown or Tim O'Toole who used to run London Underground in the UK. I think they've managed some real improvements in service and reliability on the network recently. Jay Walder who runs the MTR in Hong Kong is another strong candidate.

Employ people with genuine land transport experience not ex-SAF paper generals.
