I think there are no fixed rules on how a family should be run. The important thing is that parents are committed to parenthood. The article does state that heterosexual couples may be concerned to sticking to gender roles whereas homosexual couple do not have to play by this, and just focus on parenting. The biggest obstacle for them (and the children) is overcoming social prejudices.

I always thought the solution to our population problem was to take orphans from neighbouring countries and bring them up here. Of course the problem was who would adopt them. Now I have the answer.
Bingo . Allow homosexuals to marry and set up families if they adopt an orphan. Now we have academic backing that it causes no harm. That should convince us.
