MBS staff files police report on
alleged molest by famous PRC comedian’s assistant
China News and Taiwan’s Apple Daily published news report today (19 Feb) on an alleged molestation incident which took place inside the VIP room of Marina Bay Sands’ (MBS) Casino a year ago.
Apparently, famous PRC comedian Zhao Benshan went to MBS to gamble in Feb last year. While inside the VIP room, he couldn’t find his hat. Another person, possibly his assistant, then proceeded to body search the MBS staff inside the room.
The victim, 35-year-old Ms Phua who was a cashier working in the VIP room then, said, “The man was searching the body of another male staff. Next moment, he suddenly came from behind using his hands to search my body from my chest to my waist. I have no time to respond. Although he did it quickly, it still made me very uncomfortable.”
Ms Phua later made a police report. After a long while, the police then informed her recently that the investigation was completed. This was when the media began to get hold of the story of the alleged molest last year. Yesterday (18 Feb), Zhao Benshan’s manager Liu Hui replied that he wasn’t sure of the incident. Liu said, “Zhao is not in Shenyang. I’m not with him. I don’t know about the matter.”
Ms Phua added that because of the incident, she was dismissed by MBS in Jul last year. However, MBS said that her dismissal was due to poor work performance.
According to the news report, Singapore Police and MBS said they couldn’t confirm if Zhao Benshan was present at the incident but Singapore Shin Min Daily News reported that Ms Phua refuted this, in her interview with Shin Min. She said it was because he lost his hat, his assistant then helped to body search the MBS staff, including herself. Hence, Zhao was definitely present.
The news report also revealed that Zhao and his assistant frequently flew into Singapore in a private jet to gamble. To become a VIP, one must gamble a minimum of S$100,000.
Ms Phua hopes that justice will be served. She told the media yesterday that the Police have informed her of the outcome of the investigation recently.
The Police said they have warned the man involved in body searching MBS staff. However, the Police asked Ms Phua not to talk about the matter to outsiders further.
