That's the Thailand I've come to expect:biggrin:

We Sporeans have been trained to "follow the rules". Looking at the trouble Temasek got into Thailand, Ho Ching & Co. weren't above breaking the rules

PS: Which branch was this?

Yeah, talk properly and ask properly, can work out many things in Thailand, not like Singapore if government never say can means cannot. My friend speaks solid Thai. Sorry my Thai only a few words only, just enough to cheong! Anyway I hear the staff speaking English/Mandarin/Teochew. The branch is in Hatyai next to Diana Shopping Centre.

Years ago I used to actively monitor the hatyai thread. I remember someone sharing that it was possible to open a thai account. Was it you

I've opened both Malaysian and Thai bank accounts before. No problem with regular savings account and ATM/debit card. Chequebooks and credit card are a bit tricky but still can done if want these can provide them supporting documents and references. But in the internet era, cheques are on the way out of fashion and if you have the money, why would you need a credit card? An ATM/debit card would suffice for cash withdrawal and payment at POS convenience.

We sent our joint account application form printed from the bank site PDF last week. My wife has just received a call from StanChart M'sia. No problem. Account opened. The card and PIN will be sent to us within next two weeks. We didn't even have to visit the branch. Internet banking is a little tricky since they require a M'sian mobile number. It could be easily done by purchasing a M'sian SIM card of course but since we have StanChart S'pore internet banking, no problem again, just link the M'sian account to the S'pore account. That's good service! During my time in the banking industry, such international linking even among subsidiaries were unheard of.

So easy? Just printout and send application form. I'm tempted to open account already.
