Former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad has finally let the cat out of the bag. Top Umno leaders have deliberately locked out 'smart' Malays in a bid to keep power among themselves, leading to the current situation where the party is clearly suffering from an acute talent shortage especially at its highest leadership tier.

“For decades, Umno has ‘not allowed’ the smart ones to join the party. That is why many doctors have joined PAS. This ultimately makes it difficult for Umno to find suitable candidates in ensuring victory in the elections,” Mahathir told Bernama on Wednesday.

LKY's policies might have made him wealthy but it's cost the nation. He is from the old school of dictators which was common during his time. Just look at our neighbours who had their own version of LKY's, except they were named Marcos & Suharto.

The long term impact is still the same, people are now poorer: devalued CPF, falling wage levels, PAP introduced inflation, Lee owned businesses, .....
When we look back at LKY's reign we can see the impact of his policies. People voting with their feet & leaving Spore. The draconian "stop at two policy" that has led to the flooding of Spore with foreigners. PAP forcibly acquiring private property, lack of workers rights, etc
