What is so great about giving your money to a super smart guy who then makes a lot of money and you see your share of the business go up in value.
It is not YOUR effort!
Usually the big money is made before the IPO. When the super smart person with no money goes to rich people and asks for their investment.
After the IPO the big guys mostly cashed out already. The super smart fellow also has made his money and will not be so motivated.
You want to make money go out and work hard or put in effort to create jobs etc.
"Investing" is a lazy man idea.
