Lim Chong Yah versus the monolithic PAP

You mean LCY doesn't know that the figures included foreign workers?

Do you know what is gini? Do you know gini only includes singapore residents? How many classes did you skip for economics? 90% of your classes, except the first and last few lessons? No one counts in that way and Singapore follows the UN Accounting Systems for submission of statistics to the world. So is everyone and thing in the world spastics? I told you not sniff glue and gasoline when you were young and in your early middle age. Why are you sniffing it today?

FYI. Tommy Koh admitted it all about the problems.

There's a school of thought that LCY has the backing of Old man to say that. Idea is to stick some spurs into govt inertia and test the market with contrarian provocations. kind of opinion balloons.

This is not the first time that a former establishment member has taken on the monolithic PAP, neither will it be the last (hopefully).

Prof Lim's points are spot on, and they are highly embarrassing to the PAP as they expose clearly their lack of attention to basic human dignity and the right to fair wages for Singaporeans (NOTE: fair does not mean high, fair means you are paid fairly based on what you have done and you're not exploited by companies that don't follow the spirit of the law or cheated by unscrupulous wage structures and lack of union representation).

What distinguishes this from previous episodes is that there are elements within the estab sympathetic to Prof Lim's views and not happy that the government is still trying to shovel its mercenary attitude down peoples' throats rather than acknowledging that there is a real problem.

The cracks are forming, and those at the top know it. People like Lee Yi Shyan are only making matters worse by clinging on and harping on the old PAP doctrines like a broken record out of time and place.

So the puppeteer is shaking some strings? Guess you are right otherwise LCY would not proceed to open up what I would think is taboo. Recall Philip Yeo and LWL episode, one don't ever try to tangle with any of them or else....

The old man is irrelevant.

During the 1990s he publicly disavowed having had any influence on the Marxist arrests, pushing all the blame to GCT who took it all up his *r** like the seat-warmer that he was.

He has been known to play the good boy every now and then just to get the older Singaporeans to feel again the camaraderie of the 60s and 70s when he adopted a humble tone during interviews by the british press.

Viswa was a shock to the old man who did not see it coming. he was quickly neutralized. viswa is now safe in the fold.

Never trust old goat to do anything meaningful.

Why does the gini index include foreigners? Why is BS? Why is is it in bold? How would you know since you skip your lessons and fail economics? Did you take your medicine? Why are you so frustrated? Why are you such a failure? Getting angry won't change that? Why or why?

DOS calculates the Gini based on Singapore resident households. It includes foreigners who are PR but excludes foreign workers like maids, construction workers etc.

Read page 6 and page 7 to better understand Gini index and why it does not include foreign workers as this forum still provides education to the thinking. There is just a bit of noise these days by insane and deranged monikers who are bitter that WP, LTK and Singaporeans cannot accept them.

If you include foreigners into the mix, I suspect alot of people will start having second thoughts on what kind of society Singapore has become.

Good Morning. Took you medicine? Why does it include foreigners, period? Why should anyone take you, an unqualified person(s), seriously over LCY? Do you know by insulting LCY, you insult LKY? If you want to be so seditious, why not go to Istana and a cul de sac with LKY? Time for your afternoon dose of medicine that makes you happy and content. It will take away your frustration.

What diff does it makes. We have very healthy GDP but the poor didn't enjoy it.

There will always be poor people in any society. The poor in Singapore live much better than elsewhere. If you pity them and think govt did not do enough, why don't you donate?

It really does not matter what the population comprises as long as all economies are measured in the same way, it is an apple to apple comparison.

The EU have even more open immigration policies between EU countries, some which accept immigrant workers from their ex-colonies who then move over to other EU member countries. This has distorted the income distribution. Inspite of this, the average Gini for income in the EU is in the low 0.30's.

Another thing disturbing for Singapore is that the Gini is typically higher for a large country with distinct rural and urban population with different PPP cost of living across regions. Singapore, being a city state, the high Gini for income is glaringly more serious, where cost of living for basic necessities are equal across the board.
