There should be no sacred cows here that shouldnt be slaughtered. An MP who serves fulltime and draws a salary could also provide better service to the people they are supposed to serve.
What happens when it becomes a full time job is that MPs lose touch with the struggles of the common man. As the saying goes, in order to understand what someone is going through, you have to walk in his shoes.
An MP was never meant to run town councils. That hare-brained idea was hatched by LKY in an attempt to thwart the opposition. Neither were they supposed to be tied up with endless "meet the people" sessions on an ongoing basis. They were supposed to be ordinary citizens leading ordinary lives who spoke up for their constituents in Parliament because they were personally experiencing the problems that everyone else faced.
