Sammie

At 10am Friday, January 2nd, I was holding my dog, Sammie, in
my arms as the vet administered the injection and Sammie died
in my arms after more than 12 years of him being my faithful
companion.

Sammie has never been the most lovable dog, in fact lately,
when I had to clean up after him in the house following yet
another accident, or tripping over him and his bedding in the
bedroom, it has been difficult to take the time to stop and
show him love.

But at 10am Friday, as the tears ran free, I realized just how
much that old dog meant to me. He was special - very special.

Friday evening I was in the deer blind, again with tears
flowing as I remembered him over a quarter of my life, the way
I taught him to go fetch the newspaper every morning, the way
we'd have to get him outside when I got back from a long week
away in Oklahoma on business, so that when he saw me and peed,
it would be outside....so many little things that wouldn't be
a part of my life any more.

Then God spoke deep within my heart.

He said "John, even with all of Sammie's faults, the many
times you cleaned up after him, you picked up the trash when
he decided to empty the kitchen trash all over the floor, I
know how your heart aches with the love that you feel for him.
He wasn't a particularly lovable dog, but he was very, very
special to you."

"But would you have died for him, John?"

I replied "No."

God said "With all of your faults, John, with all of the times
you proverbially 'crapped on the floor' or 'scattered the
trash' and I had to clean it up, I love you far, far more than
you love Sammie."

"And by the way, I DID send my Son to die for YOU."

The Movie Encyclopedia
=======================

There are some things in life that you would never know if it
weren't for Hollywood.

A great movie – "The Family Man"
Every married man with kids should see this.

Without The Movies you wouldn't know this:

** During all police investigations, it will be necessary to
visit a strip club at least once.

** When they are alone, all foreigners prefer to speak
English to each other.

** If being chased through town, you can usually take cover
in a passing St. Patrick's Day parade - at any time of year.

** All beds have special L-shaped cover sheets which reach
up to the armpit level on a woman but only to the waist level
on the man lying beside her.

** The Chief of Police will almost always suspend his star
detective - or give him 48 hours to finish the job.

** All grocery bags contain at least one stick of French
Bread.

** It's easy for anyone to land a plane providing there is
someone to talk you down.

** The ventilation system of any building is the perfect
hiding place - no one will ever think of looking for you in
there and you can travel to any other part of the building
undetected.

** Police departments give their officers personality tests to
make sure they are deliberately assigned to a partner who is
their polar opposite.

** The Eiffel Tower can be seen from any window in Paris.

** All bombs are fitted with electronic timing devices with
large red readouts so you know exactly when they are going
to go off.

** If you need to reload your gun, you will always have
more ammunition, even if you haven't been carrying any
before now.

** You are very likely to survive any battle in any war
unless you make the mistake of showing someone a picture
of your sweetheart back home.

** Should you wish to pass yourself off as a German officer,
it will not be necessary to speak the language - a German
accent will do.

** If your town is threatened by an imminent natural disaster
or killer beast, the mayor's first concern will be the tourist
trade or his forthcoming art exhibition.

** A man will show no pain while taking the most ferocious
beating but will wince when a woman tries to clean his
wounds.

** When paying for a taxi, don't look at your wallet as you
take out a bill - just grab one at random and hand it over. It
will always be the exact fare.

** Kitchens don't have light switches. When entering a
kitchen at night, you should open the fridge door and use that
light instead.

Child Beating

"He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him takes care to chastise him" (Proverbs 13:24 NAB)

"Chastise your son, for in this there is hope, but do not desire his death. The man of violent temper pays the penalty; even if you rescue him, you will have to do it again." (Proverbs 19:18-19 NAB)

The More You Do

Where do you get the time?

Someone came to my house today who receives MountainWings.

They said, "I really enjoy MountainWings but where do you get
the time to write it?"

They know that I run two businesses, President of one and
Executive V. P. of another. Both are substantial businesses and
substantial responsibilities.

I am also the pastor of a church.

I also have a family (that may be the more demanding job).

They wanted to know, "where did I get the time to write
MountainWings?"

There are two points that I want you to understand,
the first one I will explain today.

"The more you do, the more you can do."

There is an old adage that goes,
"If you want something done, give it to a busy person."

By normal logic this would seem backwards.

It would appear that if you want to get something done you
should give it to someone who has plenty of free time on their
hands, someone whose schedule is open, someone with little
responsibility and ample room for more.

That would be the normal logic.

The truth is the reverse.

If you want something done, give the job to someone who is
already doing a lot. Don't give it to someone who has a lot of
free time on their hands and is just doing enough to get by.

Let me give you some simple examples on a personal level.

Who do you find in educational classes that are beyond mandatory
or college?

Check that crowd, it will usually be those with a lot of
knowledge already.

Go to a gym in July.
Don't go at the beginning of the year, you'll mostly find the
New Year's resolution crowd that will be long gone in two
months.

Who will you find that exercises the most and the hardest?
It will usually be those who are already in shape and
NEED the exercise the least. Those who exercise the most are
able to exercise even more. Those who are sedentary, get
softer and softer and are able to do less and less.

Go to a finance seminar. I'm not talking about a multi-level
marketing get rich quick seminar but a real honest financial
seminar on how to handle, invest and make more money. Who will
you find? Generally you will find those who are already
handling their money far better than average and have far more
than average.

There is a simple spiritual principle that reads,

"To those that have they shall get more added to them. To those
that don't have, even what they seem to have will be taken away
from them." Jesus said that, not me.

I didn't say it but I understand it.

I majored in chemistry.

It's called Markonikov's law in Chemistry.

The law is about hydrogen atoms and the carbon molecules that
the unattached hydrogen atoms move to. Markonikov's law states,
"them that has gits." The free hydrogen atoms go to the carbons
that already have the most hydrogen atoms.

The world puts it this way, "the rich get richer and the poor
get poorer." It's always been and will always be that way
whether you like it or not.

You may not think it's fair but it's the way it is and will be.

The thing is, it doesn't apply just to money.
It applies to anything.

Those who have an abundance of it already have a much greater
probability of getting more than someone who doesn't have any.

Anything

You name it: love, money, sex, health, peace, confidence,
spiritual enlightenment, etc., it applies. Anything

That also holds true for the negative things.
Those who are rich in negative things get even more negative
things.

So why am I harping on that?

To simply tell you this. . . GET BUSY!!!

When you start doing more, more things will come to you.
If you only do what the average does, you will get what the
average gets. That makes sense doesn't it?

SO GET BUSY!!!

Remember, the average person never reaches the mountaintop
because you can't get to the mountaintop on average effort.

You have to get busy.

What Are YOU Waiting On?

I was sitting at a prayer breakfast during the Trumpet Awards.
The guest speaker was Bishop Eddie L. Long. He spoke about a
private moment that he had with Barack Obama before he became
the President of the United States. Hundreds of community and
business leaders, clergy, members of the media and others were
in the audience.

Sitting in a room in New Orleans a year and a half before he
became the President, Bishop Long asked Obama,

"Why are you running for President?"

I have not seen President Obama's answer revealed in any other
media; although, it's easy for me to have missed it since I don't
generally read newspapers or watch the news.

This was Obama's answer:
"Because I believe God told me to do it."

Then he said, "I'd rather be wrong than sit back and not move."

This issue is not to debate politics at all so don't think in
the vein of politics. Think in this vein:

What has God told YOU to do?

In reply you've said:
It's too hard!
I don't want to do it!
It's not time!
Get someone else!
I've got too much to do!
I'm scared!
I'm not prepared!
It's not popular!
Your reason here_____________________________________!

The key is not if God told someone else something.
Too often we focus on what someone else is doing or not doing
instead of what WE are supposed to be doing. It's easy to focus
on what the "other" person is supposed to be doing.

The key and the big point of your life is: what has God spoken to
your heart, mind and spirit that YOU have failed to follow?

It's probably difficult and it's probably something that for
various reasons you are not particularly inclined to do. If it
were easy and something that you really wanted to do, you would've
most likely have already done it.

Are you sitting back and not moving on what God spoke to YOU?

NOW is the time for you to move even though it's difficult and
even though you've got one or more of the above reasons why you
haven't moved.

So what are YOU waiting on?

Killing the Good Samaritan

"The ark of God was placed on a new cart and taken away from the house of Abinadab on the hill. Uzzah and Ahio, sons of Abinadab guided the cart, with Ahio walking before it, while David and all the Israelites made merry before the Lord with all their strength, with singing and with citharas, harps, tambourines, sistrums, and cymbals."
"When they came to the threshing floor of Nodan, Uzzah reached out his hand to the ark of God to steady it, for the oxen were making it tip. But the Lord was angry with Uzzah; God struck him on that spot, and he died there before God." (2 Samuel 6:3-7 NAB)

Jesus Falsely Predicts the End of the World

"And there will be strange events in the skies – signs in the sun, moon, and stars. And down here on earth the nations will be in turmoil, perplexed by the roaring seas and strange tides. The courage of many people will falter because of the fearful fate they see coming upon the earth, because the stability of the very heavens will be broken up. Then everyone will see the Son of Man arrive on the clouds with power and great glory. So when all these things begin to happen, stand straight and look up, for your salvation is near!"

"Then he gave them this illustration: "Notice the fig tree, or any other tree. When the leaves come out, you know without being told that summer is near. Just so, when you see the events I've described taking place, you can be sure that the Kingdom of God is near. I assure you, this generation will not pass from the scene until all these events have taken place. Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will remain forever" (Luke 21:25-33 NLT)

Dirt

The boss ordered one of his men to dig a hole eight feet deep.

After the job was completed the boss returned and explained
an error had been made and the hole wouldn't be needed.

"Fill the hole back up," he ordered.

The worker did as he'd been told. But he ran into a problem.

He couldn't get all the dirt packed back into the hole
without leaving a mound on top.

He went to the office and explained his problem.

The boss snorted, "Honestly! The kind of help you get these days!

There's obviously only one thing to do.

You'll have to dig that hole deeper!"

Have you ever tried to un-ring a bell?

Once rung, it's rung. You can't call the sound back into the
bell.

That is true with a bell.

That is true with words.

Once rung or said, it can be un-rung or un-said.

There are many things in life that once it's done,
it just can't be put back exactly like it was.

When we dig up and spread dirt, we can't just put the dirt back
in and make everything like it was before.

Even when we try to repair the damage, we leave marks.

Before we say an unkind word, humiliate someone, or spread
gossip, remember, it's like the boss that tried to fill in the
hole and make it like it was.

You can't just dig it deeper.

There is a sign that you will often see on property where
underground power, water or gas lines run.

It says, "Call this number before digging".

Maybe we should always check with the main office before
digging.

You can never get dirt put back in place quite right once it's
been let loose.

More Baby Killing

"The glory of Israel will fly away like a bird, for your children will die at birth or perish in the womb or never even be conceived. Even if your children do survive to grow up, I will take them from you. It will be a terrible day when I turn away and leave you alone. I have watched Israel become as beautiful and pleasant as Tyre. But now Israel will bring out her children to be slaughtered." O LORD, what should I request for your people? I will ask for wombs that don't give birth and breasts that give no milk. The LORD says, "All their wickedness began at Gilgal; there I began to hate them. I will drive them from my land because of their evil actions. I will love them no more because all their leaders are rebels. The people of Israel are stricken. Their roots are dried up; they will bear no more fruit. And if they give birth, I will slaughter their beloved children." (Hosea 9:11-16 NLT)

Mass Murder and Human Sacrifice

"Suppose you hear in one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you that some worthless rabble among you have led their fellow citizens astray by encouraging them to worship foreign gods. In such cases, you must examine the facts carefully. If you find it is true and can prove that such a detestable act has occurred among you, you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock. Then you must pile all the plunder in the middle of the street and burn it. Put the entire town to the torch as a burnt offering to the LORD your God. That town must remain a ruin forever; it may never be rebuilt. Keep none of the plunder that has been set apart for destruction. Then the LORD will turn from his fierce anger and be merciful to you. He will have compassion on you and make you a great nation, just as he solemnly promised your ancestors. "The LORD your God will be merciful only if you obey him and keep all the commands I am giving you today, doing what is pleasing to him." (Deuteronomy 13:13-19 NLT)

It's today, it's today!
========================

Those are the first words of the movie "Stuart Little".

It's a kiddie movie. I watched it with my two boys.

A little boy began the movie by running out of his bedroom
shouting, "it's today, it's today."

He woke up his parents laying peacefully in their bed shouting,
"it's today, it's today!" as he jumped gleefully around their
bed.

The scene jumped to the three of them leaving the house as the
little boy, George, exclaimed again, "it's today, it's today."

"It's always today," his mother remarked.

"I know, but this is today!" George replied.

Thus began a kiddie movie.

It's amazing how little it takes to fascinate a child.
Such small things can make the world turn for a kid.

I remember my most enthralling possession.

It was a mini-bike.

You rarely see them now, but when I was a kid they were all the
rage.

Basically, it was a very small scooter with a lawnmower engine
on it.

Mine cost $175.00. It was a red Cyclops.

I paid every penny of it. My parents initially bought it but I
worked during the summer paying $25 a week for seven weeks on my
newfound treasure.

I proudly showed my father the automotive type drum brakes on it.

He showed great interest.

I now know that he couldn't have given a hoot about the
engineering of a boy's mini-bike but thank goodness he didn't
show it. I still remember his nodding head as I proudly
explained it.

A childish thing can be remembered for a lifetime.

I remember the first night that I had it my mother walked past
my bedroom and asked, "What's that gasoline smell?" I had
sneaked the mini-bike into the back door and had it parked in
my bedroom. I was just that excited.

She made me put my prized possession in the basement.

I sometimes think about the mini-bike.

Not that I long for it, but to think that so little satisfied so
much when you are so young.

I had to replace my car key recently. The key alone cost $175.
Needless to say, I got no excitement from the key and though the
car cost hundreds of times what the mini-bike cost, I got very
little excitement from the car.

When we are young and uncluttered with the views of typical
adulthood, everything holds a fascination.

The older we get, the more it takes and the shorter the
excitement lasts.

Now we often wake up and say, "another day."

We could learn something from little George.

Little George was expecting wonderful things to happen to him
because it's today. He was expecting to see wonders and miracles
because it's today.

He was expecting to be thrilled, to be amused, to play, to see
and learn something new because it's today.

You know what?

Little George was not disappointed.

Do you know what day it is?

Its today, its today !!!

The Prince of Peace?

(Jesus speaking) "Do not think that I have come to bring peace upon earth. I have come to bring not peace but the sword. For I have come to set a man 'against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and one's enemies will be those of his household'". An Angel says, 'Never borrow from the future. If you worry about what may happen tomorrow and it doesn't happen, you have worried in vain. Even if it does happen, you have to worry twice.'

1. Pray
2. Go to bed on time.
3. Get up on time so you can start the day unrushed.
4. Say No to projects that won't fit into your time schedule, or that will compromise your mental health.

5. Delegate tasks to capable others.
6. Simplify and unclutter your life.
7. Less is more. (Although one is often not enough, two are often too many.)
8. Allow extra time to do things and to get to places.
9. Pace yourself. Spread out big changes and difficult projects over time; don't lump the hard things all together.
10. Take one day at a time.
11. Separate worries from concerns . If a situation is a concern, find out what God would have you do and let go of the anxiety . If you can't do anything about a situation, forget it.
12. Live within your budget; don't use credit cards for ordinary purchases.

13. Have backups; an extra car key in your wallet, an extra house key buried in the garden, extra stamps, etc.
14. K.M.S. (Keep Mouth Shut). This single piece of advice can prevent an enormous amount of trouble.
15. Do something for the Kid in You everyday.

16. Carry a Bible with you to read while waiting in line.
17. Get enough rest.
18. Eat right.
19 Get organized so everything has its place.

20. Listen to a tape while driving that can help improve your quality of life.
21. Write down thoughts and inspirations.
22. Every day, find time to be alone.
23. Having problems? Talk to God on the spot. Try to nip small problems in the bud. Don't wait until it's time to go to bed to try and pray.
24. Make friends with Godly people.

25. Keep a folder of favorite scriptures on hand.
26. Remember that the shortest bridge between despair and hope is often a good 'Thank you Jesus .'
27. Laugh.
28. Laugh some more!
29. Take your work seriously, but not yourself at all.
30. Develop a forgiving attitude (most people are doing the best they can).

31. Be kind to unkind people (they probably need it the most).
32. Sit on your ego.
33 Talk less; listen more.
34. Slow down.
35. Remind yourself that you are not the general manager of the universe.
36 Every night before bed, think of one thing you're grateful for that you've never been grateful for before. GOD HAS A WAY OF TURNING THINGS AROUND FOR YOU.

'If God is for us, who can be against us?'

(Romans 8:31)
