IQ and Wisdom Thread

So is intelligence a "trained response"?

............ Many individuals doesnt seem to understand the Question so they will score low.. But after doing it repeatedly they will understand what the Question is about and they will logically will know how to find the Ans or in Which manner to go after it.

You are equating Intelligence with an IQ test. The latter can be beaten if you keep at it. People also mistake confidence for Intelligence. They are 2 separate things. People are prepared to follow a strong leader but not a weak leaders. A strong leader will naturally have confidence but not necessarily intelligence in equal dosage. Street smart is a combination of survival instinct, confidence and compensating attributes that rise to cover deficiencies in other attributes and typically it will be the lower intelligence. Intelligent people do not have to be street smart or seldom are street smart. Their intelligence carries them thru. However intelligent people who are not street smart suffer greatly in disorderly environment where survival instinct are more important. You cannot learn to be intelligent. It's inherent. You however can learn to be street smart, acquire confidence and overtime wisdom. An intelligent person is more likely to acquire and impart wisdom. This is where EQ comes in. Without EQ, your IQ cannot fathom the concept of wisdom. Criminals are generally street smart and they have to be to survive. Just as you a dim witted criminal who drops his ID as he robs a place, you also have extremely intelligent criminals.

Im not Equating Intelligence with an IQ Test.. Im saying that IQ test doesnt = Intelligence... Its merely means understanding the Questions and Logically finding the Answer. Which in-turns doesnt = to Intelligence just Understanding the Questions in the Test + Speed in gathering the Answer.

IQ is yardstick for intelligence, and one can be trained to circumvent the methods of measurements, to the extend that the results of the measure is no longer reflective of the subject of measure.

Notwithstanding the yardstick..............then back to post #1, what is intelligence, etc.....

I already tried to define intelligence. Intelligence = ability to arrive at logical deductions.
But it's not the same as being knowledgeable, capable, having EQ, wisdom, etc.
And can be said to be a subset of wisdom. ;)

1. Can EQ be a product of Wisdom?

2. What determines wisdom? (lets say no one invented the term "Emotional Quotient")

3. Does intelligence affect wisdom? Or is it the other way round?

Thank you for the comments from all thus far, and some may have attempted to answer the above, comments and after thoughts please.:)

Bro I meant EQ = Wisdom.

Think these ppl you mentioned has gained no insights on their experiences. Not enough self-reflection perhaps.

I think this 2 words Intelligence/Wisdom means the same thing. Can you also add Wise? The words Wise/Wisdom/Intelligence to me means the same thing.

Then can you help think of the rest of the questions in post #1.

Thank you for your POV and noted:)

Wisdom to me is Intelligence. Intelligence is having Wisdom.. I think this 2 words mean the same thing. Can you also add Wise? Wise/Wisdom/Intelligence all mean the Same thing?

Not trying to be funny. But why such realization didn't occur to them in the very first place? Lack of intelligence, wisdom or other factors?

We are responsible for our own actions. When sh*t happens, we should point the finger at ourselves first, but some choose to point it at others, hence missing the opportunity to gain insights and wisdom.

Bro, I did try to answer your questions in post#1.
Defined intelligence, can be trained and improved via more IQ tests but not significantly.

Also tried to define wisdom and what it means: collection of knowledge and experiences, and using IQ and EQ to tackle real problems or not to repeat mistakes.
As for whether it can be trained and improved, probably not by doing more ten year series. :o
But knowledge and real life experiences can always be added and with the right amount of IQ and EQ applied, wisdom can result and be used to handle real situations.

But as one forummer think it was po2wq pointed out, some elderly with lots of experiences and knowledge are not wise.
That's because they do not have enough IQ and EQ or did not learn from their mistakes or did not reflect deeply or did not self examine enough.

One has to first realise things have to change and it starts with oneself.

One's temperament/upbringing play a part. A mentor can help to point it out if one cannot see it himself.

Just wondering, have you ask yourself these questions, if not then for the sake of one's children;

1. What is IQ/intellience?
2. Can IQ/intelligence be trained and improved?
3. If so how to train IQ/intelligence?

4. What is wisdom?
5. Can wisdom be trained and improved?
6. If so how to train wisdom?

Comments please.

IQ is just but an abstract measurement of one's Intelligence. Intelligence is an umbrella term which covers a variety of related mental abilities. In the popular sense, intelligence is often defined as the faculty of understanding, general mental ability to learn and apply knowledge to manipulate your environment, as well as the ability to reason and have abstract thought. A person's intelligence is innate, education is just but a process to bring it out. Education does not give a person intelligence.

IQ of a human being was considered as something that is genetic and cannot be improved upon. However, various researches by eminent scientists and neuropsychologists have proven this myth wrong. IQ tests attempt to measure two types of intelligence - crystallized and fluid. Crystallized intelligence relies on existing skills, knowledge and experience to solve problems by accessing information from long-term memory. Fluid intelligence, on the other hand, relies on the ability to understand relationships between various concepts to solve the problems. It is independent of any previous knowledge, skills or experience and accesses information from short-term memory or "working memory". This part of intelligence can be improved through education, learning, writing, reading, observing and watching various activities.

While intelligence is innate, Wisdom comes from knowledge and experience. Wisdom is an ability to think and act utilizing intelligence, knowledge, experience, understanding, common sense, and insight. It is said that intelligence is the knowledge gained without making a mistake, whereas wisdom is the knowledge gained by making mistakes. Wisdom thereby is not trained but rather acquired, gained and improved upon by accumulating intelligence, knowledge and experience.

How come no one mentioned Happiness? Personally, felt a true intelligent person or wise person will also be a happy person.

Intelligence = knowledge

Wisdom = understanding and application of knowledge

Sinkies are replete with knowledge while bereft of wisdom. I could think of no better a metaphor to describe Sinkies than robots. There's no intellectual curiosity nor the spirit of inquiry among Sinkie sheep. Just compare the TV programmes of mediacorpse with that of the BBC.

IQ can never be quantified and measured. It came to down to quantification and measurement of qualification when some mathematicians happened to be intelligent and grabbed more inflence for themselves too. Notice all IQ tests have mostly to do with mathematics. Usually, matheticians are idiots who know nothing else in life except figuring out the figures, fractions and decimals. Once in a while, we'd get intelligent mathematicians, as the law of probability and numbers would have it and the mathematicians would call it. The result is called an IQ test.

Ramseth conducting an IQ test for Alamaking...

Q1. How can the three angles of a triangle add up to?

A. Are you an idiot? If it's a triangle, i.e. 3 angles, they must add up to 180 degrees.

Q2. How can the four angles of a rectangle add up to?

A. Are you an idiot? If it's a rectangle, i.e. 4 angles, they must add up to 360 degrees.

Q3. I didn't ask you anything about angular degrees. I was trying to ask about shapes.

A. OK. I go jump Bedok Reservoir.

Q4. What's the response time of civil defence and police.

A. I don't know. You go call and test.

No, yo cannot add Wise because Wise is the adjective for the noun, Wisdom. So they mean the same thing.
