I'm moving to Penang

@Leongsam you should at least seek advise from people in Sammyboy who already live in Malaysia before you make such a move, I'm sure @ginfreely will offer you some very good and important pointers.

I know Penang well used to spend Nov/Dec there every year. My life is drawing to a close so I thought I might as well return to my roots. NZ and Auckland in particular is getting too expensive and is no longer a retirement haven. I'm also sick and tired of having to mow the lawn, vacuum the house and wash the toilets daily.

I'll apply under MM2H and look for a decent house in a nice area. I'll then hire some slaves.... oops I mean maids to do all the dirty work.

I was seriously thinking of Thailand but decided that Penang was a good alternative. Indonesia, (Bandung) would be my third choice.

Just kaypoh, u can also consider Kuching.

Kuching is a melting pot like Penang as there are various races and tribal people, so many people speak English better than Melayu. There are also scenic spots for your bicycle-rides and affordable accommodations and food, both high-class and low-class. The same standard of living will cost more in JB or Penang.

My sights were set on Penang because I love the food there. Know nothing about Kuching but it would definitely be on my list of places to go to before I die. Never been to East Malaysia.

If I fall in love with the place I can always move again.

I visit Penang once every 1-2 years. The food standard drops a lot in recent years.
Nearby Bangkok is a food paradise, great street food and there's even Fioe gras buffet for the highest SES taste bubs
@Froggy will be glad to host you.

All the best for your relocation.

Obviously you have not heard of NAFLD. Must be from non developed country aka mudland son of whore.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is one of the types of fatty liver which occurs when fat is deposited (steatosis) in the liver due to causes other than excessive alcohol use. Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is the most extreme and fast progressing subtype of NAFLD.[1] NAFLD is the most common liver disorder in developed countries.[2]

The funicular train up Penang Hill often break down...I have explored Kek Lot Si & Pulau Tikus, till I am tired of that place. I love the ferry ride though over to Butterworth & back...have lived in an apartment near to Penang Hill...on the 21st floor...the clouds come into the house on a rainy day...no need fan or aircond. for a week. Nice place for food though...no fond of Georgetown..but the food is good. Can't open my mouth ordering food from roadside stall, for their hokkien accent id different from ours..they will immediately know you are from..... so the "kat chai tow" principle apply everywhere in the world.

Laksa...not the type we have over here, it is another experience, Penang Laksa, Assam Laksa, Thai Laksa...then cai tow guei, ( carrot cake) comes with tow gay ( beans sprouts), you want hay mee..you get it in soup...the char hay mee is, Hokkien Char & is different from here..so are their char kway teow, their otah etc..

Food is good...

how about this house on penang hill? view is spectacular, temperature is great at 69 degree f on a cool evening, away from traffic and horrendous taxi drivers.

Why not live on the border of Mudland and Thailand? Then, you can have the best of both worlds.
