Hundreds squeeze on Clementi MRT bridge during rush hour, almost causing stampede

"Hundreds of flustered commuters were jam-packed like sardines inside the narrow overhead bridge linking Clementi MRT station to the newly opened Clementi Mall.
"Thankfully, marshals were on hand to enforce some law and order, if not, a stampede with devastating consequences would have ensued.
"A normal journey that usually takes less than 30 seconds became a nerve-wrecking five-minute human traffic jam, as passengers were squeezed shoulder-to-shoulder, man, women, children in strollers and old folk alike.
"Although MRT officials were on hand, there was little they could do apart from looking calmly into the face of verbal abuse from irate Singaporeans.
"What is the cause of this shocking human traffic sprawl - too narrow a bridge?
"Too many attractive deals at the mall? Too little crowd planning controls?"
