Hundreds squeeze on Clementi MRT bridge during rush hour, almost causing stampede

STOMPer Justin was jammed-packed into this crowd of hundreds at Clementi MRT station last Friday (Jul 17) during the peak hour rush. 'A devastating stampede might have ensued,' said the concerned STOMPer.

The STOMPer wrote:

"This photo was taken last Friday during the evening rush hour at 6.45pm.

"Hundreds of flustered commuters were jam-packed like sardines inside the narrow overhead bridge linking Clementi MRT station to the newly opened Clementi Mall.

"Thankfully, marshals were on hand to enforce some law and order, if not, a stampede with devastating consequences would have ensued.

"A normal journey that usually takes less than 30 seconds became a nerve-wrecking five-minute human traffic jam, as passengers were squeezed shoulder-to-shoulder, man, women, children in strollers and old folk alike.

"Although MRT officials were on hand, there was little they could do apart from looking calmly into the face of verbal abuse from irate Singaporeans.

"What is the cause of this shocking human traffic sprawl - too narrow a bridge?

"Too many attractive deals at the mall? Too little crowd planning controls?"

1. one fine day, the "human" bridge shall collapse!
2. another number one too.
3. another collapse: jurong east interchange during perk hours.
4. smell, body odour & of course sheep's foreign talents.

When they see such crowd, don't you think it is only logical that they will think about fare hike? So many to milk from!

Actually, if there are alternative choices. Cars are cheaper/buses are cheaper etc. Raising the fare can reduce the number of people using it. Demand and supply, increase fare would reduce the demand for it hence lesser people using the system. This is however, a case of not building/planning the transportation effectively rather then a matter of economics.

The fare hike will help ease the crowds. It's an excellent move.

Cheap fares attract vermin.

all they need to do is to increase the train frequency, but that will not be good for shareholder, they are only interested in making money.
not serving the public.
