You have to be careful when comparing between brands. For example the german made induction ovens are more expensive than the italian made ones. Brands like the german Miele command a premium and are very expensive. You're paying for the German reputation:)

I had an AEG induction hob which was more versatile than anything in the market, it had 2 induction hobs & 2 ceramic hobs. Today the models in Spore are either all induction or all ceramic hobs & AEG has left the Spore market :(

The De Dietrich is a french brand that commands premium pricing. Back when I was in the market looking for a steam oven there was no other options. In 10 years I've never had any problems with the Die Dietrich product . I don't know about the quality of the other steamers?

I notice that Rina at Shaw carries reputable brands that you are unlikely to find in any one place in Spore: De Dietrich, Viking, Bosch, etc She's been in the business for years & can give you feedback on the pros & cons between the brands.

I have all Teka appliances and induction hobs. At first i thought Teka was some low class brand then I found out they are German made. That was before real madrid advertised for them on their jersey.

Back when I was sourcing for appliances for my new home I was interested in looking at all the brands. However the only Teka product I saw was a range hood. Even today when I visit Harvey Norman, Best Denki, Rina, Courts,.... I don't see the Teka brand.

Many of my appliances are now orphaned because the agent has discontinued bringing in Maytag refrigerators & the AEG agent is history :( It is a problem with the agent.& not with the brand as the brands are still being sold in other countries.

When did you get your induction hob:confused: Is the agent is still around:confused:

will try to do this weekend. Thanks bro.

After you see something you like, can go to Paris Silk for the best price:D

However I decided to purchase from Rina because the ceramic hob I got needed to be wired up & Rina's support personnel did a good job. Sometimes you must factor in the after sales support a company can provide & not just look at the immediate price :)

Oh becos i am buying hood/hob for my Msia house, so have to buy from Msia retailer, nevermind can check out Rina next time thanks...So you have used AEG ceramic hob before? I have been using gas and am looking at ceramic hob for my Msia house..what is the Walt for your ceramic hob? I saw one ceramic hob has 2 rings with 0.8KW to max 2.2kW, wondering whether such hob the "fire" big enough for frying some simple dishes? Can share your experience?

Hi bro, I have in my kitchen Teka four hob induction stove top, Teka oven, a Teka suction and blowing ventilator (I don't know what to call it) and a Teka full load dishwasher. I got them at the agent at UE Square ground floor if I remember correctly. That was in 2006/2007. I dunno if they are still there. At first I looked at Bosch because that was what I bought for my previous house. But it seemed that Bosch had subcontracted most of their manufacturing to eastern European countries then, and quality wasn't as good as the previous German made Bosch. The high end models we're still made in Germany and they cost significantly more than the eastern Europe models. So my interior designer suggested Teka, since I was going to pay that premium for German made Bosch anyway.

Just curious, for the Teka dishwasher, need to pre wash before putting the pots/plates into the dishwasher?

Need to briefly rinse off the debris and food particles from dishes then load them in. Just like any other dishwasher.

A ceramic hob is convenient because the whole oven surface is flat as the controls are all electronic. This makes cleaning up easier
When I bought my induction hob I also bought an AEG gas cooker, a 2 burner. It is very nice, the cooking surface is mostly black ceramic & you can easily remove the metal parts that support the pans/pots to clean the spills. Take a look at the newer AEG models here:
http://www.aeg.co.uk/Products/Cooking/Hobs/Modular_hobs/HC412000GB

Induction & ceramic hobs are convenient but they have a relatively short lifespan, about 5 years before you have problems with the electronics. Mine lasted 7 years. While my gas burner is still going strong & the only problem I've had is with the igniter. This is the part which light up the burner when a switch is pressed, since mine no longer works I have to use a match or one of those lighters. A ceramic hob does not burn as hot as a gas burner. HDB dwellers are also constrained by the number of burners they can use at any one time before the circuit breakers kick in. Gas is also cheaper than electricity.

For those who don't do a lot of frying a ceramic hob is better because it does not give out unhealthy fumes & there no danger of explosions. You can also control the heat better.

I don't do frying because of health concerns. I'm more likely to sautering the food. Maybe you should consider getting a ceramic hob AND a 2 gas burner. Space shouldn't be a problem & if you have a blackout you can rely on gas.

I've located the Teka agent. If anyone is interested here is their URL http://www.teka.com.sg/general/default.aspx?ID=6

Thanks for sharing, the AEG gas cooker does look sleek with little metal parts...oh i wanted to do away with gas in Msia to avoid calling gas delivery man, you know minimise robbery risk lah...yeah should be sauté or stir frying not deep frying I mean, so i guess ceramic hob is good enough...

Actually the picture doesn't do justice to the actual AEG design. There is a relatively tiny hole for the gas to come out. Other than that it is a smooth ceramic surface. I remember when I was using an older oven where I used metal foil to mould a cup like attachment to catch spills. It was a messy affair. On the AEG I can simply wipe off any spills.

If you are considering adding a 2 gas burner or any ceramic top suggest you visit Rina to find out what the market has to offer. Many Sporeans don't care what they have in the kitchen because it's the maids job, but if you cook DIY you'll appreciate nicely designed kitchen ware. It'll give you an idea at the european standard & what to look for in Malaysian market. I myself didn't appreciate how important good design is until I really got involved in using AND cleaning the equipment:)

If you are going to have a maid you might have to show them how to use those knobs & buttons because I heard that in most cases damage is caused by the maids not knowing how to use these features. It might be obvious to us but not to a simple villager from Indonesia.
