Cabbies ignore long queue at taxi stand

ON MONDAY at about 8.30pm, my mother, my wife and I were waiting at the taxi stand in Serangoon Road, outside Serangoon Plaza. We noticed taxi drivers dropping passengers just before the taxi stand and allowing other passengers to get into the taxis.

As a result, many people at the taxi stand - there was a long queue - either abandoned the queue to look for alternatives or even worse, rushed to where the taxi drivers were dropping their passengers.

This just made me wonder about the usefulness of this taxi stand. Cabbies need to be warned against continuing this practice. Perhaps an official representing the taxi companies could monitor the situation at the taxi stand during peak hours.

All men equal before Heavens. Taxi drivers are just being choosy.

Probably they dont want Indian passengers. I have seen taxi drivers simply putting on busy sign or change shift sign to avoid passengers. After all Mahathir is not totally wrong.

Most of these taxi drivers are scums and bad hats. Their own priority comes before passengers.

Title: Cabby gives himself just 5 minutes for lunch

Cab drivers often get bad press.

But on the flip side, being a cabby is not easy.

The hours are long and irregular. There's also the fear of being robbed and having to deal with fussy passengers.

Taxi drivers The New Paper spoke to said it is common for them to clock more than 10 hours of driving a day.

They know this could lead to health problems, but say they have no choice.

Cabby Sun Leong Hock had been clocking 12-hour shifts driving his taxi when he died at home on May 17.

The cause of death: Heart and lung failure.

Five days earlier, another cabby, Mr Lin Youtian, was found dead in the driver's seat of his cab, at a multi-storey carpark along Rivervale Drive.

Rentals are not cheap, diesel prices have risen, and it's not easy finding a relief driver to share costs.

Take Mr Jordan Loh, 47, a cabby of one year who clocks 14-hour days in his seven-seater cab.

His workday begins at 6am. He takes a quick break after about four hours to wolf down lunch in five minutes.

It's not easy being a cab driver, even if some of them are spastics. Just some. The rest are pretty alrights.

Rating scale of my relations with the taxi drivers in Singapore = 8.7 out of 10.

One should visit Serangoon Plaza at about 8pm to 9pm or

anytime of the day ... its real crowded ...

just observe how those needed a cab would do to

get one ...

Just wondering how many passengers know that

one can "dial a cab " or even "sms" for a cab ???

I have not been to a Taxi Stand . just pass by somtimes.

More Info can be put up at Taxi Stand Eg : ALL THE TAXI

Companies Call Centre No for telephoning a cab and

email or sms no to get a cab quicky ....

this will give passengers more choices ....:)

More can be done by all the taxi companies in Singapore

to promote better Drivers - Passengers Relationship .

The question is are they willing to spend the

$$ money on these Awareness Programs ????

One can understand that they are also Enterprises

accountable to shareholders .... In the long run

$$$ on these program will be well spent ...:)
