Welcome to a preview of the new SGE template.
For this purpose, the assumption is the next GE will be in 2011, Parliament's due year for dissolution (November 2011). A GE may also be called in 2010 or earlier and if so, necessary adjustments will be made.
As this website began in 1998, long before the time of blogs, advanced content management systems and social network utilities in cyberspace, the overall design had, until now, an outdated "retro", personal homepage feel.
This is why a new design has been tailored for this GE page (and in GEs to come) that is more in tune with today's expectations, breaking away from the past design.
However, to do an overall revamp and transfer the new design to the rest of the previous webpages, which runs up to well over 300 pages, is too taxing a task and requires very much the lacking time resources.
Hence, the new design will only be introduced for and from the next GE onwards.
How will PAP fare in GE2011? Will rising prices, GST hike and ministerial salary increases in three phases have an impact on its years of nearly-full dominance?
How will the other parties opposing PAP - more fractitious compared to the last GE - fare?
Will the main and oldest opposition WP, aiming to breakthrough by nabbing its first GRC, succeed in attaining its goal, remain with its sole seat or disintegrate if it loses it?
Will the civil disobedience-oriented SDP's increase in activism, seemingly out-of-touch earlier but now gaining a support of a small group of Singaporeans, pay electoral dividends?
The SDA alliance led by an aging leader - without NSP, which left after GE2006 - faces a big question mark on renewal; how NSP will perform, now that its on its own for the first time since GE1997, or whether it will merge with SDA's SPP, remains to be seen.
Finally, the new RP led by a renowned opposition veteran who passed away, faces an uncertain future at the start.
For now, we can only wait and see. Please check back here when the next GE is over. Till then.
