A 16-year-old schoolgirl with multiple knife wounds was found in a semi-conscious state in a public housing flat in Sha Tin on Wednesday afternoon after her male schoolmate plunged to his death from the apartment building’s 20th floor.

“An initial examination showed the girl suffered knife injuries in the neck, head, arms and legs,” a police spokeswoman said as officers continued to investigate the scene.

The girl was in a semi-conscious state while being taken to nearby Prince of Wales Hospital for treatment.

Emergency services were called when her schoolmate was found lying unconscious outside Man Wo House in the Wo Che Estate on Hip Yan Street shortly after 2pm.

He was declared dead by paramedics at the scene.

Officers carried out a door-to-door investigation in Man Wo House and police believe the boy jumped from the building.

During the search, officers found the injured girl in the living room of the boy’s flat on the building’s 20th floor.

“Both are Form Four students and they are schoolmates but not lovers,” a police officer said.

“We were told that they were studying inside the flat at the time of the incident. Books and some stationery were found on a table in the living room.”

It is understood that no one else was inside the flat at the time of the incident.

“For now, it appears to be a wounding and suicide case,” the officer added.

The 20th floor of the building remained cordoned off this afternoon while crime-squad officers carried out an investigation.
